Trip Lengths
I am a regional guy considering attempting to make the jump to the majors. If anyone wouldn't mind putting out some general info on what percentage of pairings at your carriers are 4, 3, 2, or 1 day trips I would appreciate it.

FWIW cargo trips are anywhere from 7 to 15 days( I am not talking about the real senior people who sleep in their own bed every night). SWA most are 3-4 day trips from what I hear. Other airlines I would imagine it would depend on what fleet you got. Hope this helps

I'm international, so mine are three days. Two legs. You don't actually leave until night the first day and get back around noon or afternoon the third day, so it's really not three full days. Domestic I saw everything: 1-4 days. It really depends on the airline and aircraft as to what you can expect. But if you're at a regional, who cares? Just get to the major and bid what you like.

If you chose 'airline pilot' as your career to be home every night you may want to reconsider since that's not the reality for the majority in this profession. That being said, I would trade a few more nights away from home for better stability(generally) and career earnings potential(definitely). At least a mainline you are more in charge of your own destiny as opposed to a regional who can lose a contract at any time. Of course, all bets are off if another war or terrorist attack occurs.
