737NG Pilots...

The American Airlines HUD is BAE. Only used on the 737-800 which is the only 737 we have.
For one of the posters above,
HUD's are useful because it/they eliminate the daily autopilot/autoland confidence checks by maintenance that are time consuming for maintenance. At least that is what I was told.
Generally, HUD's installed are a half a million dollars.
At AA they are mandatory for use on T/O to help against tail-strikes since we do Flaps 1 T/O's for better second segment climbs (if i remember properly).

What would a normal person infer from this comment? It "appears" to slam CAL for not having the HUD on its planes (maybe that we're too "cheap"?). So which would you rather have: CAT IIIA or HUD? I'd prefer the CAT IIIA autoland status equipment myself............

There gets to be a point where having both is just too much info. Our planes already have the most up to date avionics. That's like saying we'd like to have the electronic flight bags in addition to our Jepps.............

Our BBJ has the Flight Dynamics HGS 2350. You can contact FD at (503) 684-5384 and ask to purchase the HGS Pilot Guide for the Boeing 737 Hud model you want info on.
good luck let me know if there is any info you would like out of the guide I have..

I don't think you can ever have too much info landing when the RVR is 600,600,600...
The reason CAL doesn't have HUDs is the same reason most CAL 73's only have one jumpseat. $$$

Our BBJ has the HGS model 4000 by Rockwell Collins as well. Alteon (Boeing) told us at training that it was allowing some operators to takeoff at a lower RVR.
It definitely does help during a low vis takeoff, especially when you lose an engine just after rotation. The autopilot does just fine for landing though, except for the lack of a rudder axis which the HUD also gives you (via your feet). I'm still not sold on it though. Maybe if it were on both sides?
