Delta Jan classes
#31
All of you guys going to the Jan class, be sure to bring space to get all of your books home. The first day of INDOC you get this big box of books (Delta manuals, aircraft pubs, and all your jeps). If you check more than two bags you will be charged 75 bones so have room in your other bags. I did buy a kit bag and managed to fill that up and more.

Yes, they only pay for the first two weeks of indoc. You will need to pay your own way for the rest of the training.
Now, as to how this compares to CAL, lets look at this realistically. If you have an additional 6 weeks of training post-indoc AND you decide to stay in the same hotel instead of getting a crash pad like most guys do, this will cost you somewhere in the neighborhood of $3000 (assuming $69/night for 6 weeks). This number goes down to around $500 if you get yourself into a crash pad. This is nowhere near the $15-$20K difference in salary at CAL the first year.
Am I off base here?

not to mention that you are only here about 1 month prior to your OEs. Also you get positive space back home on every 48 hour break. So if you checked out on the break period you can get by with about 20 days of hotel costs. That brings you to around $1500.
