Stop. Think. Look around at your situation. Take a deep breath. Thinking clearly now? Good.

You must be kidding considering a move from one pax company to another and starting over at the bottom. The pax world (sadly) is consumed with a continual race to the bottom and you are in the downward spiral.

Not doom and gloom brother. Simply a fact. Look around at the industry.

Drop any preconceived notions about "freight dawgs" and consider UPS or FredEx. First year pay at UPS is criminal, but you'll get past it. The premiere company to work for is clearly FedEx. No one here can dispute the long term growth projections and profitability of cargo. If they do, they need to give up the bottle.

My two cents -- gut it out at NWA or leave for Cargo. The glory days of the pax world are over my friend. Sad to see it happen like this.

Tough question, you know better than me how a NWA's future will look. I know how a CAL future will look and having said that, Run, sprint, crawl to CAL... I'ven been furloughed @ CAL and it has still been a good ride ovr the last 5 years. New city every month, new planes, new oportunities!!

But I have heard that CAL's pensions are frozen....is that true? Also is CAL likely to suffer the demise of all the other Legacy carriers? Just wondering.

I understand the freight business....I used to fly night freight but just don't want to live on the back side of the clock again. Also, Purple is impossible to get in with all the BS they put you through, and all I see at UPS is war between the pilots and the managers as with Purple.....I just see the same over there as the Legacy carrires.

[QUOTE=swaayze]You're deluding yourself if you think any legacy carrier will have a defined benefit pension that's not (at least) frozen 3 yrs from now.

With appathetic attitudes like that, your right! Grow some nads and fight for what you think your worth...

too many people these days are willing to work for less and less so I think he is dead on. very sad but true and ALPA is part of the problem. you can't endorse 2 carriers on opposite sides of the specturm and think things will stay the same.

1jetpilot;

I was at NWA from November 2000 through January 2002. Furloughed nearly four years ago. Was within a 150 numbers from recall this past spring when recalls stopped.

Have flowned for Pinnacle, Polar Air cargo and Continental during the last four years.

So you highly reccommend CAL over NWA? Just wondering if the future looks brighter than NWA where management plays hardball at the expense of labor without a flinch. What a wonderful bunch of guys.

I worked with a fellow about 13 yrs ago who was with EAL when they shut down. After job searching for about a year he got an offer at both Pan Am and UAL. Took the Pan Am job. When they folded he ended up flying for a regional, then charter, and finally got his big break at......... UAL.

I have friends who stayed at TWA and chided me for leaving for NWA because they were going to be part of the AA team. A classmate aquaintance at TWA left on his own for AA and was hired there about a year and a half before the "merger" ended up almost 3000 numbers ahead of where he would have been had he stayed.

What's my point? It's all a total crap shoot, and there is as much certainty in this call as chasing stocks that have already risen. If we could predict this or any other market we'd all be rich. I agree FDX or UPS looks like a sure thing but I'll bet they'll eventually be dealing with thier own version of LCC's and outsourcing as well.

The best airline to work for?

The one that cashes your retirement check without it bouncing

Great reply, Fly4hire, you are totally right. I just don't want to end up making a decision that would set me back to the stone ages. I don't see NWA having any retirement in 14 yrs. It is just a hard one to call and I don't like throwing away 9 yrs of service just because our CEO can't manage correctly.
