Delta out of LAX or SLC
#11
Cooperd0g,
I had my successful Delta interview on 18 Dec 07 with a letter in lieu of my DD214 as well as a copy of my retirement orders in hand. My actual retirement date is 1 Apr 08 and I'll start my permissive TDY and terminal leave within a couple of weeks. We are hoping for a Feb indoc class. I'm not sure about how a regular separation would work though. I'm sure others here will chime in. Good luck to you!

Coop,
I highly recommend the Navy reserves. The Navy has VR units in Pt Mugu(C-130), North Island(737-700), and Whidbey(C-9B) on the west coast. Fallon also has some units - VFC, I think. But with your CAOC experience you would also be a natural for a JFACC augment unit. When I was furloughed in 2002 I went back full time to VR for a year right up to the point of my recall - it was a lifesaver. Best of all there is a freeze on IA for new reserve affiliates - two years I think, plus a 10K bonus for SELRES aviators (O-3 only).

Scoop,
I plan on reserve, but obviously acceptance is no guarantee. I fly with the a reserve squadron already when home so hopefully I will get a selres spot with them.
About what you mentioned before, is it possible to be a new hire into the 767ER out of LA?

A buddy of mine was in the Nov new hire class and on the Nov AE he bid to the domestic 75/76 out of LA but wasn't able to get the ER. I think as long as the hiring continues you would be able to bid to LA but the majority of the hiring for next year will be for NY.

I am a new hire (Sep 07) and bid to the LA 737 in the Nov AE. There are plenty of slots open for it so that is an option. I think they filled the ER vacancies. I am a reservist living at my reserve job near Seattle and commuting to Delta in NY right now and looking forward to moving over to LA in a few months. Commuting across time zones sucks but will all the movement right now, at least there are plenty of options available!
Good luck

HVYinRESERVE, I understand there are 40 lines for the 737 out of LAX? How many slots are filled thus far with guys hired in 2007? Thanks

I think it's probably your best shot at getting to LA and maybe not being the last guy on the list.

They filled 20 of the 40 FO lines for the 737 out of LAX. When I called about the position to see what it would be all about (in Oct), I was told probably covering 2 airports (LAX and Ontario or Orange County), and flying would be all over the U.S. and Central America. I also asked what they would do if it didn't get filled in the Nov AE and they said they may offer it again in the Feb AE and/or fill it with new hires. Of course that could have changed by now but probably is not too far off.

Thanks for the info. I am actually based in SLC right now but looks like I would stand a hold a line if I went to LAX. Still trying to figure this all out. Will probably stay put until I see what kinds of lines they build in LAX. So you are based down there? How you liking Delta so far?
I am very happy at Delta so far, but the next couple of months commuting to NY from Seattle will be rough until I go back to training. Oh well, you have to pay your dues sometime or another. It's nice just to have some choices in the matter!
