Default Good living locations in ATL

I was looking to buy a condo in the Atlanta area. Any one have a suggestion on descent places to live? I don't want to be too far from the airport, but don't want to be in the hood. I'd like to buy it and maybe rent a room to a friend of mine, so it won't be my permanent residence. Thanks.

You don`y wanna be too far from the airport, but don`t wanna be in the hood? Can`t do both. Get thee north of I-285 (but not in Fulton County, unless, of course, you enjoy high taxes), or go down to "base housing" at Peachtree City. Stay out of Clayton, DeKalb and Gwinnett Counties. I`m sure someone will come along next and tell you that I`m wrong, he!!, I`ve only lived around here for 43 years!

If you want a condo and like the social life, I would recommend midtown. Awesome place with lots to do.

Try around either the 285 loop, to the west i.e. smyrna, vinings, or to the east, stone mountain area... You can't have it all, expect to drive about 35 minutes with no traffic. Midtown is really hopping, but those condo is not the best investment properties around town.

YOU'RE WRONG! OK, not really.

I currently reside (part time) in Metropolitan Peachtree City. If your younger, single and looking for fun, this is not so much the place for you. Its allegedly good for raising families though.

The younger, singler, funner places to live are in town, I'd recommend the Virginia-Highlands, Vinings, or perhaps the Midtown area (going pricey these days). The trick is not straying too far, or your in less than appealing parts of town. I would second that Dekalb (with the exception of the Emory/Decatur area maybe I hear they're cleaning up) and Clayton (ClayCo) aren't the place to be these days. I had the most fun living in Va-Hi, but my car was broken into once,

So is it a fantasy to want a cheap place to live and not have to worry about thieves, and not live in the woods??

If you want to live in the south then yes. ATL is a relatively expensive city to live in because of the professionals relocating here from CA and NY. Someone told me that ATL had the highest actual growth rate in terms of population of any city in the U.S. Nearly 1 million people relocated here since 2000. There are lots of high rise condos going up around the city with 40 more high rise units planned for construction. The problem as someone pointed out earlier is that you can't resell them. Why buy used when you can get a better deal new?

I would look at Smyrna/Vinings, Virginia Highlands, Buckhead, Midtown or even downtown for a condo. I also like parts of Marietta. I would also look at being close to a Marta rail station. You can take it directly to the terminal and avoid rush hour traffic which in ATL is hell at times.

simple answer

Vinings

20 minutes to everything in the ATL including the airport....great night/social life....contrary to the misconception...traffic is not bad as most of ATL.
