Anyone ever go from EWR to LGA on the ground? How difficult and how is it price-wise? I got on the EWR website and it lists various options, I just didn't know if anyone has actually done it and could verify that its doable.

I've only got 5 nonstops to LGA but have 13 or so to EWR if I end up on the shuttle.

Just trying to figure out if this is a viable option or an absolute last ditch idea.

I was EWR-based for a long time, although I commuted. I never heard of a direct shuttle between EWR and LGA. There is (or was) one between EWR/JFK.

There's the Newark Liberty Airport Express (http://www.coachusa.com/olympia/) that runs directly between EWR and downtown Manhattan every 15 or 20 minutes or so. I think it makes several stops, including Grand Central Station. From there, you should be able to catch the subway or a bus to LGA. The tickets are around $10/each way if you buy 10 at a time with an airline ID. I know of several CAL and XJT pilots/FAs that live in NYC and use this bus service.

Funny you should ask, because I was just looking that up myself. Google LGA airport, and look for "Connection between airports", and you'll see a list of options to get from JFK<->LGA<->EWR. Among from LGA and EWR, you can do the Subway, and then AirTrain route, or the NY Airport service express bus, cost about 15, or the Olympia route the other mentioned, cost about 12. I think the buses takes about an hour or so, i think it's the best way to go, rather than hauling your luggage all over the subway tunnels.

You definitely want to avoid using any trains between NYC and EWR. The Airtrain is more expensive than the bus service (I think it's around $25) and the PATH train only goes to Newark Penn Station. You're then looking at either taking a local bus through the heart of Newark (not advised) or pay a cab, which will cost at least $20 because of the airport charge. The PATH also requires you to switch trains. If you're cheap and adventurous, it's an okay way to go, but not while you're in uniform schlepping your flight bags around.

Doesn't really answer your LGA question, but since you could also be reporting to JFK, you might find this useful. (I haven't tried it, personally, but you might be able to get some good feedback on the DALPA boards.)

Jumpseat on CAL from EWR-BOS (almost hourly 737s) then turn around and jumpseat from BOS-LGA on USAir or Delta Shuttle (every 30 mins.) Takes 3.5 hours and it's FREE. Did it a few times with no hassles.

It's Grand Central Terminal and there is no subway service to LGA.

There are many ways to get between EWR and LGA. The most direct is the most expensive and that would be a car service. The least expensive is a pain in the butt but here's how to do it:

From EWR, get on the AirTrain from whatever terminal you're in and take it past station P4 to the Newark Liberty Train Station (rail-link). From there you can take New Jersey Transit (or Amtrak, which will cost more) directly into New York Penn(sylvania) Station. Make sure you're buying a ticket to New York Penn Station because there is Newark Penn Station too.

You can buy your NJT Ticket from a machine in each terminal just at the base of the AirTrain escalator. You'll want to do this because there is a $5 or $6 fee to ride the AirTrain to the rail-link stop (Newark Liberty Train Station) but this fee is waived with a NJT or Amtrak ticket. Thus you'll want to have your NJT ticket in advance of the AirTrain ride.

Once in Penn Station, you'll need to buy a Metrocard for the subway and bus. The fare is $2. You can can take the 2 Train or the 3 Train (the subway) uptown to the 125th St stop (at Broadway). From 125th St (on the same $2 fare) you'll transfer to the M60 bus and take that the rest of the way to LGA.

The total cost will be $17...$15 for a one-way NJT ticket from EWR to NY Penn plus $2 for the subway to the bus to LGA. This is the cheapest option...not necessarily the best.

These guys charge about $28.

You can also take the Newark Airport Express bus to the Port Authority Bus Terminal (W 42nd St and 8th Ave) and connect to the New York Airport Service Express Bus to LGA. Total cost about $22.

There is a bus/van that runs between LGA and EWR. I haven't used it in a year. When I used it I just asked at the ground transportation desk in LGA/EWR. When they had a van full, they sent one over. I can't remember what it costs, but it wasn't crazy.
