I'm just about the last United newhire on the property, all excited about my new job, then this happy news comes out.
Any word on when I'll get the kick in the ass? I brought my extra-thick Toughskins so it won't hurt so bad.
Are interviews still going on?

I heard they're shrinking RJ's, but not firloughing mainline guys. Same as Delta. I guess you heard differently? Anyway if they are, try Continental. They are continuing to hire indefinitely. I know it sucks going thru another initial so soon, but it might be a good idea. Just my 2 cents..

It's easy for me to say not to worry, but don't get worked up until you get the notice. Parking 20 planes doesn't have to mean parking pilots too, as long as the airline is hiring and understaffed. They may be able to park planes at a rate that doesn't require furloughs. Good luck.

"Hot off the press", out of the "horse's mouth"....
TRAINING IS GOING ON AS PLANNED!!!
Just called them. And it seems I am not the only one "freaking out". Our class has a break, and seems like a few of us called today, and I (we) were told, training is going on, and will go on. They will be sending out emails to us to calm our nerves. Thanks to "D" in New Hire. She's the best (along with "S")
As far as interviews, I can't tell ya.
Also, the new hire who got beaten, was there @ 10:30 PM. The guy at the front desk at my dump, said it's not the best place to be walking after dark. And that was just to go across the steet to the WalMart. He was going to have someone DRIVE me over there. I waited unitl the next DAY!!!
The new hire will be alright though. Just A WHILE to heal. Bad eyes and jaw.
Thanks go out to the GENTLEMAN who stopped and helped out!

The line's still very short. 15-20 737-500s are likely to be parked/sold before the end of the year. Those 737s have been planned to go for quite while. I wouldn't be surprised if they are coming up on heavy checks.
There won't be any furloughs unless the cuts go much deeper.
I was furloughed for five years, so I understand your angst. At the moment, I'd say that you'll have no problem clearing probation, even if UAL continues to park aircraft.
Prior to any furloughs, the company will offer liberal leave of absences. Once you see that happen, expect to be furloughed in the next 6 months.
As always, plan ahead. Have multiple furlough plans, including one that does not involve flying. You've got your mainline line number; no need to stay current.
As for a possible furlough, just remember that failure to plan is planning to fail.
Welcome aboard and good luck.
