My play on it---

The Fat Cat business guy paying top dollar to fly international first class does not want the Fat/Old/Senile/Mad Senior FA. Just look at any of the overseas carriers and you get the idea of what sells first class tickets like hot cakes. Reality is reality in this business.

The raise was for all employees at Delta excpet the pilots. It was not just the flight attendants. July 1 is the day they give each years raises out. The company had committed long before the merger annoucement to pay increases each July until the employees reached a baseline relative to the industry.

Delta is also offering a early out program for the flight attendants. The real problem is that the flight attendants taking the program are not the ones you want. I have not talked with one over 60 who is taking it.

This is b/c they do not trust DAL to honor the terms. Most are very bitter.

No, what sells is SERVICE. Foreign carriers that have attractive, young, slender F/As provide better SERVICE with no ATTITUDE. That is what sells.

Us carriers have no clue, and can't change the screwed-up culture we have in this country anyway.
