Nice. This is how things should work! When operating costs are up, you raise the price to the consumer. Supply and Demand are both high. Keep raising the prices until demand starts to slide a little. It seems to work with oil. It inches up $2 a day. Has demand gotten any smaller? No. It hasn't changed for years despite what "speculators" say about India and China (I am so tired of hearing that sorry excuse).

I think the biggest blame lied with the LCCs back in the 90s, now that those are struggling the majors can pass the cost to the consumer without having to worry about the LCCs raining on their parade.

That is the thing about LCC's. They spring up all the time. Just when things begin to look good again there will be a fresh new crop on its way. Ant then of course a few just might catch on and then they become a part of the establishment. Allegiant, Frontier, Airtran, Spirit......

Its hard to reduce system capacity when there is always somebody waiting in the wings to fill the void... even short term.

This shows how clueless some of these industry "advocates" are, and how biased they are against airline labor:

"I would say to my CEOs: fasten your seat belts, tougher times are coming," Giovanni Bisignani, director general and chief executive of the International Air Transport Association trade group, said in an interview.

Really tough time for CEO's, eh Giovanni?
