Oh JDMJ, Thank you for the answer.
I can see it. Unfortunetally nowadays we're having more rigid rules.
What type of aircraft do you fly? Where are you based in?
I'm flying B737-300 at Gol part 121 in Brazil. I got my ICAO English level 4 (the minimum for intl flughts) but I'd like to improve my English skills.
Att. Gabriel.

So, you know it, and the TSA agent also is supposed to know it, but, at least for the pilot, you're not allowed to see it (let alone carry it). I don't even think the average TSA agent is allowed to see it.
I once asked a '3 stripe' TSA agent (the most stripes I've seen on an agent) to review the policy with their fellow agents to ensure understanding and compliance. I was told "you'd have to route that request through Washington".

I'm sure the rules on CREWPASS are just as odd- you know them, but you can't see them, so it's impossible to carry them so that you can ensure compliance with them. This is the way the government works sometimes. If I were a congressman . . .
Other government oddities:
- Q: Why are you subjected to the liquid ban if you're properly badged, but not in uniform? A: b/c the passengers would question why you (dressed as a passenger) can carry liquids through. Ok, fine. But if the liquids are inside my bag, how do they know I have liquids in my bag in the first place unless they're looking at the X-ray image of my bag?
- Q: Have you ever tried to use your CREW ID as your ID when accessing security along with a gate bass or boarding pass? Officially, you can't do it. Why? A: You must show a "Government picture ID" when accessing security with a boarding pass. The ID that required a 10 year background check, the one that gives you flightdeck access, the one that follows the TSA's own standard security program - nope, that's no good, b/c it's not a "Government" ID, see?
These are the rules: follow them blindly.

I have done just that after going through in plain clothes and being told that I would have to get rid of all my liquids and being escorted back outside of security before I was allowed to even touch my bag. I then proceeded to see which line that usefull person went to got back in that line waited for him to tell me I was not coming through with my liquids/gels so I then proceeded to pull out a wrinkled workshirt change shirts and then went through. Bear in mind that this entire time I am carrying a 10lbs dog in my arms. TSA was not very pleased with me but hey rules are rules right??? I was now in uniform

Be careful out there going through TSA.
I had a lady jump in line right before I got in the line at ORD. I didn't see where she came from but she didn't come from the employee line (it was late on the weekend so the normal employee line was closed). Anyway, as she was putting her stuff in the bin, she turned to me and told me she was a pilot and asked if I would carry a bottle of water through for her (she wasn't in uniform). That's when she pulled what appeared to be a United crew badge. I didn't get a good look at it, though. I told her that I wasn't comfortable with that and the more I thought about it afterwards, I'm guessing that she was probably TSA.
Moreso, though, I just really hope there aren't pilots out there putting their brothers and sisters in that extremely awkward position. I mean we were at the x-ray machine and within earshot of the agents.

kind of reminds me of folks who have no clue on who attacked us on Dec 7,1941 .
Back on thread , so what we have here are $30,000 a year civil servants who can stick it to a $100,000 a year pilot if they so chose, anyone see the irony in this ?
Correct me if I,m wrong on this but i read somewhere and i can,t remember where this was but can the TSA have your ticket pulled by the FAA if you become a problem at the sec check?

My point is, what does salary have to do with anything?

You see, very soon you'll be hearing:
"GOL 23, contact tower on 129.5 for English or .7 for Español".
So basically have a little patience and brush up on your Spanish and you'll be set...

I did this in JFK. They wanted to take my liquids. I was going to EBBR. I cracked my suitcase open right in line and put my uniform shirt on over my golf shirt. Right in front of a whole line of people and the TSA. Got through no problem. In hind sight it probably was not the right thing to do, but I needed my stuff. It is hard to come by sometimes in Europe.

First things first. When you have to bring up the fact you went through the military and survival training to build your credibility about dealing with the TSA then something is most definitely wrong with those people. Secondly there are many instances where you can't just list for a flight. For a CAL express flight I cannot list. I have to go to the gate. If you can list for a flight they want you to only list for one so you might not always know which one on which airline. Sometimes you go for airline A and it not work out so you have to book it to airline B which could require going through security again. Also there are people who simply go in to get Jep revisions or pilots that actually work there like our assistant CP etc.
