I hope that the Northwest pilots do not have to strike the Airline, But it is shameful that management is allowing the future of this once great airline to fall apart.

Chamberlin was one hell of a natural field commander...

I'd still take Maj. Richard Winters as my CO over Chamberlin anyday...

In reality folks, if we have to strike we will more than likely liquidate and shut down for good. I don't think Bush will let that happen. It would shut down most of the mid-west along with MSP and DTW. Not enough planes or crews trained right now to take over our routes.

Here we go again SKyHigh.

You do not work for Northwest (neither do I) and I am pretty sure you have no clue of all the issues. This is their carreers at stake! And one that will have implications on the all rest of us.

NW MGT what to start an alter ego carrier...........In essence if MGT does what they what all NW DC-9 folks with A319/20(or an equal #) could be furloughed while those jobs are outsourced to lower waged pilots................Sure they might hire some of the furloughed folks, only after they are forced to resign their NW seniority #'s.

What good is that 125K job you claim they have...........when it will be outsourced to 75K. This is in my estimation the biggest issue they are facing.
What's next........outsourcing the A330 and 747 flying to the Alter EGO?

The NW pilots know what is at stake. This isn't an EGO issue it is a career issue............and as I said before, what happens @ NW will have implications for all of us. I for one , know what they (the NW pilots) are going through. Is it a tough decision? sure it is. Is it a gamble? you bet!

I for one will support the Nwest Pilots 100%. I have already joined them on their informational Picket line and will do so again if necessary. I will send them $$ if required if it comes to that.(Above any ALPA assesments). I Commercial DH on Northwest quite alot. I am a Platinum Elite Plus member. I have sent NW manegment a personal letter stateing that I will no longer fly Northwest until they resolve their labor strife. In fact I just canceled my NW reservation to Memphis this Sunday in order to Attend the FedEx Pilot rally. I am using Continental. Lest I digress...........

The NW Pilots have already given up to 40% in cuts already. They are looking at potentally losing their pensions...............Just how much more do you expect them to give up? It isn't you or me to answer anyway........It's theirs.

Believe me EGO isn't what is caused the Strike vote........at least from the pilot side.

It's alot of things. The 40% pay cut, NewCo, another 20% pay cut, no raises until 2010, the freezing of our pension. NWA mgt wants 1.4 billion in labor costs, but refuses to consider any savings from not having to put $ into the pension fund ( NWA mgt has already said that that alone will save the comapny several hundred million a year).

Cant wait to see the "bonus" Steal'in gets after all this is over. He's already going to gedt $58,000 a month for life when he leaves NWA.

Send a message! Enough is enough!
I agree but will take it a step further.
.It would send an even Bigger message if all Professional Pilots walked out with them! at least for a day............................................... ............

Think that would send an appropriate message that enough is enough?

That really would be very interesting to see if/when we walk, if other pilots do too. I know that wont happen (I dont want anyone to loose their job b/c of our mess), but boy that would sure send a signal.

Great concept!! Wish we could pull this one off!! Then again as we can tell by reading many of the posts on APC there are Scabs and Low Wage Wannabee's ready to jump at any opportunity. Look at how much attention Virgin Atlantic is getting.

It used to be a great industry.....Now it's turning into Walmart.

Ladies and Gents:
I prefer not to make this a Pilot vs. Pilot thing. That is what MGT wants.

You can't blame someone for taking a job at JB or Virgin or whoever to feed their families.

We can, however, get upset when these folks state "I will take your job and work at 1/2 your wages". There is a difference.

For the folks still Employed at the Bigger companies. Don't fault Pilots for feeding their familes. Don't use Jumpseats as a weapon to Punish a pilot a little less fortunate than you. Use the Jumpseat as an educational tool. Instead of denying someone the Jumpseat..........Make him/her sit up in the CKPT and educate them...........Make them want what you have and show them how to get it.

For you folks working at LCC's where pay and working conditions aren't the greatest or need improving, you must strive to improve it.........................and Like it or Not ,that really equates to collective bargining.........meaning a UNION. Don't look to the bigger higher paying company's and say "those pilots have it too good". I'd take their job for much less. Conditons weren't always that way.........Read Flying the Line Part 1 and 2!

Pilots today are being assaulted from all fronts........Greedy, incompetent MGT's, An uncaring Administration, a Red Taped corrupt FAA, A power hungry TSA. The salivating Foreign governents who can't wait to get a piece of US Airlines!

Let us not fight each other............................or we will all surely lose!

The words spoken/written by RedEye could not have been stated any better. As for the unions...who do you think got the jumpseat for others? All the safety rules/FAR's passed that looked after the pilots? And the list goes on and on and on........Certainly not mgt! I can almost guarrantee that pilots working for non-union airlines will be wanting one very soon.
