um...what are you talking about? The integration cost has decreased 40%, Einstein. Keep trying, though. Just don't take off your crash helmet.

Slow down and actually read the article Chow. This is what it said;
"It also said it expects to spend ONLY $600 MILLION in cash to integrate the two companies, COMPARED TO an earlier projection of $1 billion."

If you do some history you will find that nearly the entire 7 billion was in related to right downs in good will on the stock and other accounting items. Very little was due to actual losses. If you read further, you will see our cash liquidity actually went up. All things considered this was a huge feat to accomplish. Wall St. is impressed too as the stock is up nearly 10%. If they were worried like you were, the stock would be getting hammered right now.

GEEZ sorry guys. I saw another loss and thought the integration cost had a "B" in it and not an "M"!
But thanks for the comments. I made a mistake reading too fast. First mistake I've made today but it won't be my last......

I realize that cash liquidity rose and that Wall St. is happy. I also know that Delta is projected to start hiring in the fall. However, Comair is projected to start furloughing at the same time. So my hope is that these will be the last of the one time items and maybe, just maybe, there will be better times ahead for the wholly owned.

Bud, you should probably have a thicker skin if you are going to roll in and try to instigate some ill will based on an article you did not bother to read, and which did not support your assertions.

I do have thick skin, I read too fast and thought too little I guess. But since you took a shot I thought you deserved one back. No harm on this end.
And the only thing I stated was how long can an airline keep losing money in the billions? I may have gotten the integration cost backwards, but the airline is still at a $7 billion loss YTD. I'm hoping for a better turn around in Q3. That was my only point.

Chow... These are BK write-downs. When you come out of BK you basically guess at what your value is based on the market. Just as inflation and rising gas prices are eroding your paychecks value, so is the market hurt Delta's original estimates of valuation. These are goodwill write-downs per the bk process. Also there is a $100mil write down for their 4000 early retirements. I commend Delta for this program as opposed to furloughing. Look at what AMR did vs. Delta. AMR lost $284million vs. Delta's $137 million in profits.
