Not to be a pollyanna, but the bulk of the reported loss (1.1 billion) was a non-cash charge related to the tanking of the share price. Excluding this one-time charge, Delta actually reported a profit beyond Wall Street's projections and revenue came in above expectations as well. Given the current economic climate, I'll take these results...

You go Delta! That is pretty impressive given the current fuel prices. It looks like their massive international expansion is working. I can't wait to see the 3Q results!

The Atlanta-based company also said it expects to achieve $2 billion in cost savings by 2012 from its acquisition of Northwest Airlines Corp. That is double what it estimated when it announced the deal on April 14.
...so we need to rush to approve the current POS TA....why??

I read the part where it said the cost of integration went from a projected $1 billion to $600 million. (Psst....that's LESS money, not more.)

Chow,Obviously accounting was not a strong subject for you.Take the time to learn how to read a balance sheet or continue to show your ignorance.I prefer the latter,it's more entertaining.

Chow,
you are right that this is alarming for Delta. I am quite worried about the trend. A 1.2 Billion loss is a LOSS - no matter what spin the company puts on it. However, the article stated that Delta plans on spending only 600 MILLION as compared to 1 BILLION on the integration (a savings of 400 MILLION).

"...It also said it expects to spend only $600 million in cash to integrate the two companies, compared to an earlier projection of $1 billion."
