"US Airways says it will provide water and drinks for passengers in cases of medical emergency and during extensive delays. If a desperately thirsty passenger does forget a few extra dollars, US Airways spokesman Morgan Durrant says flight attendants will likely “err on the side of the customer” and give him or her water. After all, the airline wouldn’t want its customers drinking tap water from the aircraft bathroom. That water is safe to drink, just not very palatable, according to Durrant."


HOly s%#t....Ill have to fake a heart attack to get a drink of water on USAir. MY company commercials me a lot and usually buys last minute business class....Ill be doing everything I can to fly on someone else!! Pay for a drink of water...what a load of crap!!! Are they gonna payroll deduct any bottlles of water the crew drinks too!! The best thing that could happen to USAir...is Doogie Parker getting another DUI and going to jail....where I hope they dont give him any water.

Bull.....I have asked for cups of ice water at a movie and it hasn't been a problem...any restaurant...not a problem. The sad thing at USAir not only will I not get a drink...but I wont get the movie anymore either.

I agree. I have personally been on a USAir Express RJ on a one-way fare over $600 for a 2 hour flight.

What a great move to alienate your best customers.

The main reason the airlines are tacking on all of these rediculous fees instead of just raising fares is this: as you probably know, on travel sites such as Travelocity and all of the others, airlines are listed in order of the cheapest fare first and on down the line. Most folks are looking for the cheapest fare and don`t go below the first or second airline listed. The "junk fees' are not included in the price of the ticket. What`s the solution? I don`t have a clue, but this is the cause of paying for all the extras that were in the past included at no additional cost.

How Ironic. Legacy carriers use to ridicule Ryanair as the bottom feeder when it comes to charging passengers rediculous fees for everything. Now who's the new bottom feeder of the pack?

Face it - the american consumer will complain all day long - but if USAIR shows up first on Priceline/Expedia/Orbitz etc with the cheapest flight they will buy it. Yeah - the industry sucks, but look around, people wanted cheap airfares and they got them - for a while anyway.

Free water on subway--never; but ticket was only 2.50
free water at concert---last month
Free water at the mall--a couple of hours ago

Free water at restaurants===everywhere in the US

Free water and sodas on Southwest--Friday
Ticket prices on Southwest--Lower than USAirways

You are right however. If USAirways shows up as the lowest price, people will buy it, regardless of whether or not water is free. But if expedia put up a flag that said "Warning: you must pay extra for EVERYTHING including water on this airline" ===that may deter people. \\

Bottom Line: People should not expect crap for free on the airlines---you pay for it everywhere else. However, there must be a line drawn. And that is with WATER and BATHROOMS. USAirways crossed that line, and now a legacy is merely a new bottom-feeder.

The paying passenger is just getting what he-she deserves out of this race to the bottom. That is a ride on an airplane to destination and Nothing else. The customer has driven this and now gets it!.... AND complains as always. Mike Levine (former NWA Vice President and now Harvard Business School professor) had a theory of "Two weeks and two bucks" which meant that the customer nomatter how ****ed off would fly on your airline again after two weeks if your fare was the cheapest by two dollars. All industry trends have proven this to be essentially correct. The customer is just getting what they pay for and the customer's actions are reinforcing this trend.

Agreed.

As much as I hate nickel and diming, whether it happens to me or anyone else. It is frustrating and stupid. I would rather pay for everything upfront then being nickel and dimed every step of the way along the process. But like you said the customer has brough this one themself by being boneheaded, and picking a lower fare, even if its 10$ less, but 10 times as much inconveniant.
