Default CAL pilots pay furloughed pilots insurance

MEC Special Notice 9-10-08 - Pilot group solidly passes furlough assessment‏ From: [email protected] Sent: Wed 9/10/08 7:35 PM To: calmec-fastread ([email protected])

Security scan upon download Attachments: 02-0808 - Medical Insurance Reimbursement for the Furloughed Continental Pilots.pdf (13.7 KB), Assessment Example.pdf (13.7 KB)

ALPA: The Pilots Union

In a show of support and concern for their fellow pilots, the pilot group has passed, by an overwhelming two-thirds majority of those who voted, the proposed Medical Insurance Reimbursement for the Furloughed Continental Pilots assessment. Voting on the assessment closed this morning at 10:00 ET. This assessment will be used to reimburse furloughed Continental pilots for health insurance premiums. In funding this assessment, the pilots have shown that their concern for the welfare of their fellow pilots far outweighs that of management, which continues to deny coverage to our pilots during their first six months of employment.

The first assessment of 0.25% will apply to your Oct. 16 paycheck. Funds remaining in the Continental Furlough Assistance Fund upon dissolution will be refunded to the pilots who paid the assessment, on a pro rata basis. For an example of how dues and the assessment are applied, please see the attached PDF file “Assessment Example.pdf.”

In accordance with the furlough process, furloughed pilots on Continental’s health insurance plan will continue to be covered under Continental’s plan until the end of the month following their furlough date (Oct. 31, 2008 for pilots furloughed during the month of September, for example).

For more information about the furlough assessment to reimburse health insurance premiums, click on the attached PDF file of the resolution that was passed by the MEC. More information about the program will be provided to pilots on furlough via blastmail, the calalpa.org Web site and other communication.

I think the tide maybe changing at CAL. I hope you guys are back soon. Two thirds of this pilot group is sick of the same ole shat.

I need to rephrase the above statement. Two thirds of the pilot group that care enough to vote are sick and tired.

Did the same thing when we furloughed for 9/11 so its nothing new. I think it passed at a higher percentage rate back then though.

I know it's not new, but I'm just glad to see a majority of the votes actually go towards something worthwhile.

I flew with a Capt. who voted no for insurance after 9-11. His reason "Why should I subsidize someone else's career choice. I knew what I was doing when I chose this career." He had crossed the picket line in 83.
