A couple of my HPA classmates have Oct interviews. Haven't heard of any Nov interview dates going out yet though...

I interview on Oct 8, I don't think they are doing anything in Nov - at least I haven't heard even the slightest whisper about a Nov interview class.

HPA 737 typed
2800 Total
1500 PIC

I interview on Oct 14th. With .3 per sortie conversion:

Typed Sep '07
2800+ TT; T-37, A-10, T-6
1900+ PIC
Evaluator Pilot
March Availability

Haven't heard of anyone with any later interviews than those two weeks this month...(holy crap it's October already...)

Things can change on a dime, but I know some letters saying "expect a class no earlier than next year..." have gone out.

Great to get the invite--go get the job! But plan on some pool time--maybe just a couple months but the pragmatic guy will plan for 6-12 just in case.

Had a friend who was expecting to be in the pool for a year or more...ended up being about 7 months after his type date. Lots of variables right now...

Question on the 737 type rating (I understand it's required for actual hire, and I get it that it "wouldn't hurt"): Is having the type a discriminator in terms of who SW calls for the interview?

Zach,

I have to tell you I honestly believe that going to Higher Power in Dallas helped me get my interview. I met the hiring team lead and the head of HR while I was there during their Southwest class visit they do. The hiring team lead put her phone number and email on the board for us - if that isn't an advantage I am not sure what is.

I had a buddy that interviewed at the end of July that go the job and they are telling him to not expect a training class until early next year....as for me and my timing I would Luv to spend some time in the pool. A training date of about July or August would be perfect - I guess you have to be careful what you wish for (time in the pool) it could be a lot longer than you think.

In a word: Yes

The history behind this is well documented here on APC and on other related forums. One can get an interview and "hired" without a type, but it seems to take longer, how much longer, no one really knows, there are just way too many variables to objectively figure it out. SWA recruiters regularly say that it will take longer to get a call for an interview without a 737 type rating. The choice is yours.
