And my point continues to be made that some people can't have a good time yet be responsible. In the words of a great poster:

While you are drunk (in public) get in your car, kill yourself or somebody. End up six feet under or in jail. Either way, you lose your license. The next sober pilot moves up in seniority. Enjoy your beers.

"Flight crews are supposed not to drink alcohol for at least eight hours before flying." shouldn't it be 12?

See 91.17. Eight hours bottle to throttle. You can't even allow someone on board who appears drunk...

Eight hours bottle to throttle or .04 is what the FAA says. However many companies require 12hrs. They have op specs that are approved by the FAA and therefore replace the FAA rule of 8 hrs.

"United Airlines has suspended the officer, who earns around £40,000 a year, until the police investigation is over."

Maybe if he made more than 40k pounds a year to fly a 777 across the pond he wouldn’t have to drink!

Seriously though, this sucks for reputation…

With United's management... how can somebody keep from drinking?

All joking aside... this sucks. Thank God*** the guy got caught before somebody got hurt.

***Edit: There... happy now?

40,000 pounds is approximately $75,000 which to some might seem like a lot. Pretty pathetic if you consider he is flying a 777 and probably been in the business for over 15 years. Not to mention, he was based at SFO, very expensive. I think a garbage truck driver would make more in San Francisco.

It is that damn English ale, much higher alcohol content than a Coors.

Last time I checked...innocent until proven guilty. On the other hand, I just saw the Rays beat the Sox so I'm not legal either!

Ya... sorry. I forgot to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. Although, I think they said they gave the pilot a breathalyzer. Either way... it's a sucky situation!
