There was talk of it after DCC, but no one was going to hit the street. Now it looks like that will not be necessary.
I think NWA has a no furlough clause for 2 years as part of the merger deal. From what I heard from JSing to MSP a few weeks back. Once the merger is complete they will be hiring.
Once the merger is complete NW will no longer exist. Also, the no-furlough clause you are talking about has holes in it large enough to drive a truck through, just like every other no-furlough clause.

Scoop - Furloughed while a no-furlough clause was in effect.

Yes, with this economy in the tank, there is no way that we would have a leg to stand on trying to argue that it was the merger and not the economy. If they want to furlough they will you can count on that.
Little early to worry about that. I would be worried about that if replacement a/c are not ordered for mainline.

Scoopy, I don't think so. NWA is looking at upwards of 1000 guys jumping ship before DCC to avoid the increase in benefit premiums. Combine that with the probable 10 year fence and were short big time. I also heard that were pulling upwards of 25 DC9-30s from the desert because of the price of oil. That being said, NWAs side of the new Delta will be hiring.

PS
My guess on the 5 to 10 year fence is that it will be negotiated because the arbitrator warned Delta that this is a merger of equals.

A THOUSAND guys????? Really Cap'n? And where did you get THAT little "fact"?

capncrunch 10-24-2008 03:41 PM

If I told you which birdy gives me the goods then the goods I would not get. Rumor is that management is trying to slip the dcc by without much notice to surprise potential NWA dropouts and avoid the big shortage. Just wait and see...

acl65pilot 10-24-2008 03:53 PM

Yes, Nov 1st. ( maybe a little more depending DOJ)

nwaf16dude 10-24-2008 03:53 PM

I'd have a hard time believing they'd let a 1000 go, but I'd sure love it if they did. Hope you're right

CAPN,
First of all its Scoop. Second of all reread my post - I never commented on NWA furloughing or not furloughing. In fact, I doubt they will furlough. I commented on the fact that a no-furlough clause with any kind of economic or F-M clause in it is worthless and I stand by that comment. As to 1000 guys retiring I am all for it.
A merger of equals - how can that be? After all you guys have all the super duper fabulous premium special flying. I said it before and I will say it again - you guys are truly the adjective Kings!

I heard that they were going to allow another 150 or so out.
