I have heard about the "furlough" situation, and it is as soon as the merger is approved, NWA and DAL will both be hiring separately, until they combine into DAL hiring only.

Any truth to this? I'd like to hope this is case. I've heard that it would only be DAL hiring out of ATL. It'd be nice if NWA did some hiring out of MSP until the SOC is done.

Tough to say exactly how the hiring would come down, but legally if any new people were required on the NWA side before a single operating certificate is issued, those people would have to be trained according to the NWA operating certificate. Whether DAL would hire and send folks to MSP or tell NWA personal department to do the hiring is the question.

I would hope it would be the latter for my sake.

Great question and no decision has been made on it.
They did their hiring at Western until after the SOC. So it is possible that NWA would do their own hiring.

If both companies hire after DCC and before SOC, how will they integrate the new hires? Relative seniority or DOH??

My fingers are crossed.

As with other mergers that have done this they will be hired and put in seniority order as it is determined in the PWA. With DAL that is last four of your ssn. After that they would be put at the airline that their seniority can hold.

Nice try on the loaded question.

Nice try on the loaded question.

But you didn't answer the loaded question. What is the basis for their SSN or their seniority. Is that basis a ratio, or their Date of Hire?

He explained his answer to the loaded question...newhires at DAL are placed in order of the last four of their social, since they all have the SAME DOH. Your initial class date is your DOH, therefore, 30 or so folks have the same DOH. DAL uses the last four to stack the 30 or so. It used to be age, but the lawyers got involved and quashed that.

I see. At NWA, SSN means "system seniority number" and at DAL it means "social security number."

It still doesn't answer the part about how you integrate pilots from two different companies that hire after the DCC. How will those guys be integrated?

Carl
