Combine that with the probable 10 year fence and were short big time. I also heard that were pulling upwards of 25 DC9-30s from the desert because of the price of oil. That being said, NWAs side of the new Delta will be hiring.

PS
My guess on the 5 to 10 year fence is that it will be negotiated because the arbitrator warned Delta that this is a merger of equals.

So....how many "jumped ship"?

Probably less than 10. About the same number that will jump ship when they get the equity money and about the same number that will jump ship prior to age 65 unless they can't get a medical. That is some "massive" attrtion from the "Super Premiumum Wide Body" positions.

Whatever the number is it wont be out until the end of the month or so when they show the retirements for OCT. It is likely less than expected because it was pushed through so quickly. Makes you wonder if that was mgmts plan in an attempt to retain pilots in an attempt to delay the eventual training bubble that is coming. We'll see

I think you're right Super. They really caught a lot of guys flat-footed. If that was their plan - it worked. It's been the talk of the "whine cellar" here in Narita. Now if any NWA guy wants to leave before 60, he has to factor in the $2,000 per month medical premiums.

Yes...it wouldn't have had anything to do with DOJ approval and corporate closure happening within 3 hours of each other - right?

You can use that as an excuse if you want, but if I were faced with $2000 per month vs. $150 I wouldn't try to time it down to the day to bail. I kinda think the guys who really were going to leave did so before the DOJ approval and DCC. I doubt Delta went to the trouble to close the deal just to keep pilots froom leaving. I also think they had a two day grace period so it shouldn't even matter that it closed so quickly. What excuse will you use when all your guys continue working past 60? How about past 62.4? The only think we can bank on for retirements is 65. We've only got four more years left until we are back to where we were last year.
