It seems the only difference left is seating capacity, payscales & working conditions. It used to be revenue, but many regionals now make that level.

I thought being a legacy airline had to do with how many times they filed for chapter 11 protection in the past but then AMR was spoiling that theory...

A Legacy Carrier is an airline that was in business prior to the 1978 Airline Deregulation Act.

At least it sounds good to me.

I would say if your A fund is funded above 80% and you have a good B fund DCC in place then you work for a legacy, major airline. Only about one of those left on the planet and they are fighting their asses off to keep it that way.

So why were Hawaiian and Alaska not listed as Legacy carriers before now? I didn't see anyone answer that question. Did the definition change recently or was this just an oversight?

Hmmmm, any legacy worthy of the name has a long history of poor management, job actions, furloughs, bankruptcies, multiple repaintings of aircraft, labor group whipsawing, a stable of regional carriers to whipsaw, bitter senior captains, bitter militant junior fo's, too many grandma fa's, and a sprinkling of scabs here and there. Did I miss anything?

We could turn this into a Jeff Foxworthy skit.....only not funny

If your pay was cut from over $300 per hour to $180 per hour this decade.....you might work for a legacy.

If your modern training center is three years older than when Herb founded Southwest Airlines ......you might work for a legacy.

If you have 200 less airplanes, but there are 200+ RJs flying in your colors.....you might work for a legacy.

If your $100K pension is now $22k, and paid by the government.....
you might have worked for a legacy.

If you once rode in a dedicated crew limo to your layovers but now you ride in a packed hotel van that smells like a New York cab.....you might work for a legacy.

If you wish you would have stayed at FEDEX....you might work for a legacy.

Oh, the good ol' days when flying for a legacy carrier meant something.
