Absolutely right. I did that as well....it was the last time we flew together.

My favorite was a Captain on the Guppy who sat down on the very first leg we flew together and drew an imaginary line down the center panel and the center pedestal and said "everything on my side of that line is MINE and you will NOT under any circumstances touch anything on my side of that line. Is that clear ?" Everything on the overhead panel was "the Captain's" and he would be the only pilot to touch anything up there. May have been Kit Darby's cousin.

The second favorite was a Captain on the 767 that sent an e-note 3 days prior to the trip telling all of his F/O's that he was a very "by the book" Captain and would not tolerate anything but a 100% professionally run cockpit. Checklist were to be run properly when he called for them and if we showed up 1 minute late without a cleanly pressed uniform and wearing a hat, he would remove us from the trip. (Another fun guy to layover with).

Fortunately, those guys were few and far between....

G'Day Mates and Happy New Year to all !!

I'm furloughed, and have obviously pondered the issue of retirement numbers as I bounce between flying jobs on different continents. I have come to two conclusions:

1) A lot of pilots talked about how they had no interest in working to 65, and to expect frequent retirements before then. This hasn't happened, and I don't expect it to.

2) Most of the people I flew with were fine professionals that had some respect for the new people, regardless of whether we actually flew together: "You're on probation? And you're getting furloughed? And you're buying your own beer? Oh, nononononono......"
