Default keeping the USAirways name? Why?

US Airways is synonymous with mediocrity. From their reliability, to their route network, to their costs, to their employee morale. America West comes in to combine the two airlines but decides to keep the US Airways brand. I just don't get this. These two companies have a chance for a fresh start to take on lowfare foe like Southwest, yet there keeping an old stodgy name. These management guys get paid millions and can't even understand marketing 101.

Unfortunately I have to agree with you on this despite working for the mediocre airline. But I do have to disagree with you on lumping the entire work force into one category as being lacking in morale. Yes the employees at USAir are beat down but we've struggled with a hostile management group for years that have taken so much from the employees while lining their pockets and bolting off the property aka; Steven Wolf and cronies, followed by Dave Seigel and his bandits, and now David Bronner and his Retirement Systems of Alabama. Each one of the above named "managers" came in, blamed all the airline's woes on labor, made rediculous marketing moves, sold off aircraft that were owned then bought new, more expensive aircraft with fewer seats and higher seat mile costs thus negating all of the cost savings that were gained with the concessionary labor contract. We, the employees, will bust our ass to make this place go. What's discouraging is that we've continued to do this for years while being led by people with absolutely no airline experience to speak of, except Steven Wolf, in recent years.

I'm with you guys, time to turn over a new leaf. The US Airways name needs to disappear, but then they lose the brand name recognition on the East Coast. Is it that big of a deal? I'm sure someone has thought it through.

IF I could give them a suggestion for a new name, I'd suggest Citilink Airlines. It's honest, and describes exactly what the carrier does. JMHO.

I would have to agree with you all the USAir name is played out. Also it is not the name of choice when traveling to or from the west coast

Have to agree with bchapman. Mostly good folks here that Ive worked with past 19yrs, but sadly many missed/botched opportunities. As far as name recognition goes these days in this industry, if the price is right people would flock to fly any outfit even one called Buzzard Airlines.
