Well said Razorback.

Here is the good thing, its September. It buys us all some time and every month that goes by helps us tremendously imho... as long as a bad economy is the only thing we have to worry about.

(I Just got done with 2 three day rotations off reserve that nearly put me over 30 in 7) Then you're talking about taking the quite a few of the pilots you just trained for that airplane, putting them on the street, and training a whole new batch to take their place. That would add quite a bit of cost as well - although I understand the training dept has had revolving doors before. That being said, that puts a furlough fairly deep in the economic cycle (In September the recession would be 22 months old,) and likely (hopefully!) closer to end than the beginning. Does it make sense to cut when you may have to bring those pilots back in less than 2 years?

And then, of course, there is the 76 seat issue. Does anybody know how many are actually on property, or on their way? I guess the deal says (on paper) if any of us get furloughed, they get knocked down to 126 (?) of those airplanes immediately. And for whatever reason, management still seem to have a woody for those things.

We also haven't had any voluntary leaves/furloughs/early outs etc. offered to the pilot group - so hopefully they'll go there before kicking us to the curb.

Then there are the arguments of no furlough clauses, under staffing in the north, more airframes on the way, company making money, summer schedules vs. all the negatives in the world and industry right now.

Its gonna be a close call, to be sure. Lots of variables, and Airline management is world renowned for stepping over dollars to pick up pennies. We can only hope that this group is different. As ACL said, all will become clear in a few days. I'm in the bottom 50, so I'll be one of the first to find out...

Hoping for the best, already planned for the worst.
There you went and did it!! I'll have you know that looking at the big picture will not be tolerated!! .

All joking aside, could the worst happen? Sure, but if you look at everything as of now there are a lot of gears turning this machine and that's what mgmt has to figure out. Fortunatly for us, the machine is large and very complex. Let's just keep the gears turning and hope they can keep the machine oiled!

Default ACL, et al:

Uh, does this mean I will be furloughed before I actually learn how to land the Maddog?

No. What will become clear, is what they will cut. Staffing may not be known until the end of July.

This pull down will not result in furloughs. The last displacements planned for this if we decided not to do it, we would have had a reinstatement.
DAL is about 150~ or so pilot fat going in to the summer
Post SOC the joint company will be about 160~ or so short.

Needless to say go get your wives pregnant.

Now why the F%$* couldn't the company have said that??? Steve or ALPA could have taken 2 mins to send out a email or record his udate line? Why did we have to hear this from a web rumor forum??

I do not know. I just started calling people until I got someone that knew what was going on.
Call over there, see what they say.
I guess to those in the know it is not a big deal.
What I did notice on the internal memo was that these cuts were why they asked for more voluntary early outs. They stated that overall they were happy with the staffing cuts, but there were a few areas that were still over staffed. I saw that a good sign. I then made some calls.

They could make a liar out of me, but there was some really good data to back up the statement.
Steve should be in the ATL lounge today. Someone can ask him there.
