Default Dallas ATC

I have not flown domestic in some time ... matter-o-fact, I'm off today sitting here in Brooklyn studying for recurrent. I guess it's safe to say I'm having a pretty leisurely day. My mind drifted back to when I flew domestic and had to deal with any frequency in or near the 113.1 VOR ... Maverick. I'm certain some of you know it well. I flew out of DFW a long while ago, but I didn't like it then and I don't like it now. I've dealt with controllers all over as I'm certain some of you have. I'm a southern boy, but I enjoy flying in the North East ... don't know why. LGA and JFK are my two favorite airports. The controllers there are the best in the world IMO. I do not, however, have one good memory of flying into and out of DFW. Someone please tell me it was just me, and that you enjoy flying there. Flame easy, boys and for you Dallas controllers, God bless you. I don't worry about violations any where in the world, except DFW. It's sad to feel that way.

Tom

Are those the same folks who wouldn't let an airliner land straight in despite a declared fuel emergency because it would inconvenience their traffic flow?

Your not alone. I used to bid around trips that went through there. Hated it

DTW is another facility that seems to be violation happy. I don't get it. What happened to the days of no harm no foul?

I know its probably more management in DTW...

I haven't flown into DFW in a couple of years, but I never had any problems going in there. It's such an easy airport layout wise, approaches all straight forward, same with SIDs/STARs. What are they getting guys on? Seems most of the complaints have cropped up since I stopped going there.

The guys at LGA rock. They can also be quite chatty and funny on the radio. Now, the JFK controllers on the other hand ... APC forum rules prevent me from saying how I really feel.

It's Management everywhere. They claim to have taken back control of the agency. The ATCs are basically working with a gun at their heads these days. The rules change from day to day and supervisor to supervisor, and nobody knows what is real anymore.

I remember the DFW incident where the straight in was refused. A supervisor made the call there, and enforced it.

The managers at DFW and DEN now have the aircraft slowing to 210, way out beyond what is legal. This has been pointed out to them. At DEN they stopped the parrallel arrival streams.
They are trying to protect trainees who shouldn't be at that facility, and their own a$$es.

The ATCs just do as they are told anymore. An argument, or even contrasting point of view just gets them a Letter of Reprimand or time off without pay.

It will get worse before it gets worse.

I dont care if the head of the FAA made the call. I will land where I want if I declared an emergency. If they have a problem with it I will deal with them once the batteries come off

Used to do tons of flying at DFW and never had an issue with ATC. Have not been there in awhile so things must have changed.

Thumbs up

I always hated the fact that I needed a separate flight kit to carry all the charts for DFW! Really, do I need 50 different departures? Um.. I can recall a airport with ONE DP, O'HARE! ORD controllers are the best!
