It doesn't matter what the airline's definition of "voyage" is, it's how the Japanese define it, and my guess is when they are told that there was an apparent flu victim on board the aircraft and the crew was exposed, then the games begin.

As an aside to this story. The captain on his went to the Japaneses consulate in New York a few days after this occurred. He was basically told had the crew continued they was a strong probability the crew would have been put under quarantine in a local hotel for up to ten days.

Good question, but even if there are recordings and call logs, they are held by the company, not the pilot.

Ask the duty chief to have dispatch send you a printer message under his signature stating his position you are legal to go. Most likely he will re-consider. If not, you now have written proof of his argument.

As an aside to this thread - I've been using Google Voice for the past few months and it offers a feature that lets you record your outgoing or incoming calls via one touch from a cell phone. The recording is automatically transcribed to text (varying degrees of success there), and the recording can be published to the net in a few clicks.

Does that run afoul of various state laws governing the recording of phone calls? Some states require both parties to know a conversation is being recorded, some only one.

When you press "4" to start recording, a voice is broadcast that says "call recording started" so that could satisfy the requirement.

is google voice record call legal - Google Search

Skype has offered this service for several years without too much press.
