Default Delta Nairobi service

Quick question for you Delta guys and girls. I would like to take my father on safari and I have heard that Kenya is one of the best spots to see "big cats". I thought Delta was supposed to start service there this summer but I cannot find any information on Delta's website. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The service to Nairobi was delayed due to objections by the TSA over security. No other details, but we don't fly to Nairobi, yet.

Best guess is early next year. When I asked when they thought we would start serving the market, the response was that they would be surprised if we served it by the end of the year.

There are numerous security issues with that market from the airport to crew layover options. It was canceled when the TSA refused to certify the airport. I am not sure flights there will be started anytime soon.

Doesn't make sense, you guys fly to Lagos which has to be one of the worst in the world.

Additionally, KLM, British Airways, and Air France (and maybe Emirates and some others too?) have flown into NRB for years. They have the same standards as Delta would I'm sure.

All those listed are not US Carriers. It's a TSA problem. YAY for our government.

Yep, they are totally worthless!

I was also thinking of the part that sailingfun mentioned about layover options though -- does TSA get involved with that? Seems like that would be more of a company thing. So, Delta could probably find perfectly suitable hotels in Nairobi such as the ones that BA, AF, and KL use and then the delay does go right back to the TSA and their airport stuff.

Non US carriers do not face the same threats as US carriers. The flight was canceled at the very last minute after a direct call from the chief of homeland security to the head of Delta Airlines. It was based on specific intel as to threats to the operation. At the same time the TSA revoked their initial approval of the operation. This happened the day the inagural flight was supposed to happen. There were events planned and government officials in place to celebrate the beginning of the new service which means there is more to the story that we may never hear.

Hi!

NBO is the closest big airport to the game areas. The closest is Kilimanjaro.

From NBO or Kili you can drive to the Mara. You can also fly from both, and fly from Dar-es-Salaam.

Kenya Airways, BA, KLM, Virgin, Air France, Swiss, Emirates, and a bunch of others all fly to NBO (so does Lufthansa cargo, Atlas, MK, Southern, etc). Probably DAL/NWA/KLM/AF will work best for NBO
