The real answer to the question lies in the MD-80.. As we take 203 737s a month recalls and growth hinge upon what we do with the 80. The 80s are great aircraft when gas is fairly cheap and we can fill them up.

If the economy does rebound next year expect to see the 80s stay and immediate growth could occur with an additional 36+ 737s being delivered. Everything stays soft or worsens, the will park the 80 1 for 1 with 737s, or worse 2 for 1.

AMR has pretty much cut as much as they can, and still be able to maintain the integrity of it's network. What is next, growth, or more shrinkage?

Wish I could read tea leaves..

That holds true for DAL too. We cut anymore, and we are going to be looking at hub closures.

Good luck! I would not wish furloughs upon anyone.... I do envy you guys in one way. It appears RA and his managers are actually trying to run an airline!

Sometimes it appears our "leader" have no vision whatsoever!

Cheers,

The 700lb Gorilla just woke up from a long hibernation, and hes hungry. Time to gain some weight and the dinner bell just rang...

Arpey and the boys at HQ aren't stupid, they have some big plans

I think he has been awake the whole time. They have been doing a few things behind the front line, with DAL making a play for JAL, AMR just needed to make a few decisions now that they wanted to make a little farther down the road. In effect they are just pushing the point.

I see a lot of tit for tat between the two companies.

What about scope? I thought AMR was maxed out at 25 700's unless mainline grew. Any change, or is Arpey just playing hardball?
