Had that happen yesterday, I think it was Cleveland center, female controller had called a couple of times, so the third call was "Delta/Northwest 123"...
it worked....

It's not easy,, when u r tired or trying to multitask,.... the old call sign comes out. Whoever screws up, buys the next round!! It will take some time

Initial contact is usually easy. It's responding to clearances that is tough. Saying your call sign becomes second nature. Habits are hard to break.
