Too big to sit in one seat??? You best buy two.
Props to SWA for stepping up & standing firm.

You'll note, however, that SWA made a huge point of making sure that everyone knew that they apologized to him profusely.
Everyone remember the "United breaks guitars" guy? He was a nobody, and his trifecta of youtube videos was the worst kind of publicity imaginable for United.
Embarrassing a still producing filmmaker is probably not the smartest long term P.R. move. I suspect SWA figured this out really, really fast. Good for them: many airlines would have missed this rather important distinction at their peril.
Although if he's flying SWA, he's obviously not very successful anymore. What person of means (and of size) wouldn't spring for a first class seat on an airline that offered one?

One that cannot afford one??
Most can figure out that be it the United Guitar dork or the fat guy on SWA....they really are not going to create all this "negative" image and be a negative influence to the airline.

But if money wasn't an object, I'd certainly spring for the most comfortable seat and the most pampering possible when choosing an airline flight. I'd have to say that SWA probably wouldn't make the cut . . no first class, no assigned seats, etc. etc.
As for SWA's reaction: I think they're extremely savvy to realize that there are some passengers you do NOT want to upset if at all avoidable. Journalists. Politicians. Famous people. Movie writers/directors who could "dis" your product in future films.
I'm impressed at the speed they caught onto this and appear to have rushed to mitigate any hurt feelings. ZERO sarcasm on this; the PR department at SWA has it's you-know-what together.

He could have owned an entire row on his original flight, still means nothing if he chose to go STBY on an earlier flight that didn't have multiple seats to accommodate his 'size'. If that was the case, I'd say he's 'S.O.L.'
I'm pretty sure if he needed two seats on the later (original) flight, he would need two seats on the earlier (stby) flight as well.
