Can any of you insiders educate me on payrates via LOA 19 ? In regards to A319/320, the 320 is heavier and has a few more sets than the 88, and pays more. The 319 is heavier than the 88, but has fewer seats, but still pays more.
The 88/90 pay differently, why not the 319/320 ? Don't want to bring the bus rates down, would rather bring the 88 rates up.
Just curious about the methods used .......slow ??

Part of the old pay formula was range - and the 319 has a higher range than the 320. Also, it was just pure negotiation. The 320 rate is a composite rate based on an approximate mix of 319/320 flying one might do and former NWA brought that rate to the table. Delta obviously chose to negotiate a higher rate for the 90 when it came on the property. No mystery - just different negotiating tactics by the respective groups.
Since the rates have now been established, you will unlikely see anything other than straight percentage raises in the future since most people would be unwilling to expend any negotiating capital to bring one aircraft group up over another.

Historically that has not been correct. The 88 was brought on the property with a low rate initially. It has received higher raises in at least two contracts to bring it more in line with other narrowbodies. The 737-700 just received a increase to bring it up to 800 rates which was a large increase. The trend is for common categories to have a common payrate.

It all depends on how you configure each airplane, but the 737-800 probably seats more and the 737-700 is small so it defininetly seats less than the a320. As for the range I'm sure the 737 can go further. Some carriers with the airbus have problems with the transcons in the winter while the 737NG doesn't.

I'm not sure. I know JB had some problems a couple winters ago. On their transcons they often had to fuel stop in LAS because the headwinds were so strong. But, I think the A319 has a range of just over 3000 NMs. I'm sure configuration will effect the range.
I'm not familiar with the 737-700, but I'm sure the -800 has more range. I know DAL uses them for JFK-SEA. I believe NWA used to do BOS-SEA in the 320, so now I'm just confused, and I don't care anymore.

I always figured that it ws because DL had 73 rates and no Airbus rates. NW had Airbus rates and no 73 rates. When the two contracts were mashed together, that's how it turned out. Did we really want to start negotiating new rates when we couldn't even negotiate an SLI?
