I.
The same way you would reach 500 hours or 1000 hours. It just means pilots will actually have to earn the seat. I have to admit I was hired as a low timer but given the choice I would much rather see 1500 hour guys than what I saw in class. Plus in the long run, probably VERY long run, compensation packages will have to go up otherwise no one would want to become a pilot.

I flew pipeline myself. Talk about dealing with the WX and having to make decisions. That stuff pays off. The folks that are coming up are gonna have to just work that much more harder. It sucks and I wouldn't do it again if I had to deal with what's going on now.

I mean what real commercial flying job can you have to get to 1500 that has the crew management and all the things they want?(instructing will get you there but not with crew management)

Don't get me wrong, this bill will make pay finally go where it should. people have no idea pilots are underpaid. I tell my friends what FOs make in regionals and even Majors (and how much training cost) and they don't believe me. It's ridiculous.
Good question. The same way everyone else did it when the minimums to get hired at a regional carrier were at least 2000tt. They did, so can't everyone else. You'll thank congress for doing this one day. It's hard to see now but when you get past the honeymoon of flying you'll remember this post. Goodluck.

I am glad they are doing it and know why they are, I'm just worried about how I will get there now. No worries, I got plenty of time. It will all be fine.

Default I believe early Colgan years

Late 60's up until mid 80's that the original IBM contract that got Colgan off the ground and running with required 1500 hrs TT 250 multi just to sit right seat in a Chieftan and then BE-99. One also had to have an EKG....as an FO.

This is not BS but fact.

No Board Directors and Colgans were allowed to fly together....in case of the unthinkable. Wipe out the entire Board as few as they were.

This is a time when there may have been 50-150 pilots on the payroll. You knew the pilots and their abilities...family if you want to use the term.

What happened to safe conservative thinking?? 90's-2000's profit driven expansion I guess.

I hope it gets back to the same way. I sure as hell would not put my family in a RJ or T.P with a 500 hr FO riding shot gun to a 3000hr CA. No way Jose....better off to drive.

Great post up until you decided to switch fact with opinion

Do you actually believe that driving is safer than flying

With a 250 gear slinger, and a captain up front that has busted 5 rides? I'll roll the dice on I-95.

I beleive that is what we call a perfect storm.

Let hope that he is a little more pragmatic when it comes to commuting issues.

I hope they leave that at study and confer.

I agree, it's a lot closer to the driving safety level than one would initially think.

Aviation statistics DO NOT matter if you're in that one plane with the accident chain up and running.
