Default Where would the industry be...???

Not that it matters now since the cow has left the barn but got to wondering this morning... where would be be if Age 65 had not passed... and specifically what I mean is.... how many senior guys would have HAD to retire at this point...... and conversly...how many guys would not be on furlough now... or would have moved up from a regional job.... I am guessing here... but I suspect the number might be upwards of a couple thousand.... when you look at all the majors, legacy and big cargo carriers.

First, you're right, the cow has left the barn. Let it go. However, if you've got time to kill, it would be easy to figure it out looking at the list of each company. What may be harder is to see what happens to carriers with FEs. UPS saw a surplus of pilots when they parked the DC8s. Not only did they take airplanes out of the system, they took 3 man airplanes out of the system and a lot of the FEs were between 60-65. Depending on how fast FedEx parks its 3-holers will be how fast it impacts its system. I think that one of the managers at UPS has said there was 260 guys over 60, they want to furlouugh 300. How many guys are over 60 at CAL? They have few on furlough. If I were you, I'd embrace the Herk and wait for 2013. Good luck.

Those airlines that shut down, would still be shut down. Those concessionary contracts imposed would still be there. Those that took it in the shorts as far as pensions go, would have less income in retirement at 60, and would possibly be struggling. ALPA and its membership would do nothing about it.

That is exactly my point...

and as far as embracing the HERK this has nothing to do with my non aspirations to fly for a major pax carrier. I have not flown a c-130 since late 1991!!!! [edit] simply looking at my signature should tell you I am a laid off 91/135 guy!!!

It was simply a what if... such hostility.. LOL

Well I can tell you at US Airways, there are over 500 guys on the street with 224 furloughed, so you do the math.
