Glad to hear it Tex. I have met a few of you in my years, 1st time way back when you guys started the service to mesa williams gateway, and you always seem to be a stand up group. If this is true and none of you are even willing to fly our routes, I will gladly buy you a beer anytime.

It's Not Us That Make These "Rules"

Which is the stupidest thing I've ever heard.... I mean back in the day, when the normal route to the right seat was thru a 2-5 year stint sitting sideways, how much flight currency do you think those pilots had? Or what about the military guy who gets a 3 year desk job, or the furloughed pilot who gets a recall after years? Currency is just a way to save money for airlines.... nothing to do with hiring quality crew.
First, you cannot compare hiring and "career" progression with even 5 years ago. HR will do virtually every trick in their book to cull the numbers and currency is just one of several ways they do it. Of course, when the economy returns, the boot is on the other foot. Case in point. Ten years ago, I was unemployed for a long time, obtained WIA funds to get a new rating and became current. Did that increase my marketability? Not really, just got another rating. Applied to all those companies operating that type (and more) as I also had good time in type and on paper was competitive. For 14 months NOTHING bit and then, I was no longer current. Went overseas to fly something I had NO time AND NO RATING on. Guess what? No problem and in the ensuing 2-3 years flew 3 DIFFERENT types. So, agree 100%, currency, like hours, does not maketh the pilot necessarily! Now, I'm going through the EXACT same scenario again.....yes, stupid but you cannot control what an airline HR dept does...........there is NO rhyme nor reason. They either like you or not............ |
With all the more experienced pilots, who have lots of jet PIC and 73 and up time, you might be too experienced if you know what I mean. Might be looking for someone who doenst have the experience and to them this job would be a step further. And doesnt know how to be treated.
What are the requirements to be an FO? |

I totally agree with you, it's just frustrating to see pilot hiring in the hands of a bunch of HR chicks.. I can still remember talking to old timers who flew at the likes of Eastern, Pan AM, TWA, etc back in the day when the entire hiring process was in the hands of the pilots... more over those airlines back in the day were themselves run by pilots or at least airplane/airline enthusiasts.. men like Juan Trippe, Howard Hughes, Bob Six, et al... then came the bankers and bean-counters and we're now all just another "Employee number" and on par with the ramper or gate agent .. Change isn't always a good thing.. when will people wake up to this fact? sad. |
HR CHicks
When HR is doing the interview it feels more like being on the Dating Game instead of being evaluated as a pilot.
Question: Pilot number 2; When you fly do you like to use both hands or only one? Skyhigh |
Where are the 737 pilots based? I spoke to the cp a few weeks back and was told i would be competitive for the 737 FO. I have no 737 time and no turbine pic. Could someone with the inside info please pm me as i have alot of questions about this place.
Cheers! CEFO |
How is Vision doing? Two daily flights from ATL to SDF starting in DEC and more flights from Florida to come. Sounds like they're having trouble finding charter customers so they're making their own charters?
