Yes I KNOW AAI negotiated the new contract with some sort of coordination with LUV, as I stated previously.

As far as the judge is concerned, the contract that was in force on Sept 27 was a contract too!

You seem to see it as coincidence that a group that voted 98% in favor of strike after 5+ years of mediation, fighting against one of the indutry's most aggressive and oppresive managements, suddenly made friends with their management two weeks after the acquisition was announced and got a TA.

Reality check- without this announcement, the AT pilots would still be in mediation (though probably on ice until after the new year) and would still be wishing SWA would come to save them...even if that meant a staple!

Better go to Amazon.com and order yourself a red Swingline stapler - by far the Cadillac of staplers...that way, you won't be so disappointed...and you'll still get your "staple-job" - even if self administered - when an arbitrator decides to merge you guys based on career expectations. :cool:

Why is everyone so hooked up on seniority issues only? There's a lot that goes into this equation, and seniority is only one part of it.

Because pay rates change (sometimes in the wrong direction). Seniority doesn't.

I'm sure you'll tell me that SWA is immune to future pay cuts, and you might be right, but I wouldn't bet my seniority on it.

Then how about a 10-15 year pay fence? Integrate seniority by DOH or relative seniority, but keep the pay rates separate--and at current levels for 15 years or so. (Of course, any future percentage raises/cuts would be applied to the base pay rate for each side.)

That would certainly maintain both sides' "carreer expectations:"

AirTran expectation: 737 Captain at X pay
Southwest expectation: 737 Captain at Y pay

The merits of this idea notwithstanding, does anyone know if the unions can negotiate that sort of thing, or are they only allowed to agree on the list itself?

15 year fence? So a 7 year fo hired next year will make more than an AT captain now? Arbitration, if it goes that far

You guys are starting to confuse the SLI with the JCBA.

SLI is where we are on the list. JCBA is everything else, just like any other airline. The JCBA won't be done until the list is done.

Can't have one union trying to negotiate a contract for two pilot groups. You are begging for a DFR lawsuit.

You're asking for serious trouble if you do it in that order.
Better do the contract first or you could end up like USAir.

The Airtran guys are not likely to go for list first. If they "win" the arbitration they might never see the list go into effect. It would be Nicolau all over again.
