I honestly don't know, but I would doubt it. However, it was a percentage of the highest 3 earning years out of your last 10. Ours was frozen, and then the PBGC will pay out based on the frozen pension at that time. Since I won't retire for 20 years from that date, inflation will have had that long to eat away at the money. typical government idiocy... I should have become a welfare mom... the pay is much better.

Default looks like the big loser here is AMR

It seems that WN has remarkable power swaying the DOT. DOT rejected the first deal (a deal WN had formally objected to, perhaps b/c WN wouldn't get any slots out of it), and now the DOT has approved this new deal due to, among other things, "recent events had resulted in an increased presence of low-cost carriers at the two airports". WN now has AirTran's DCA and LGA slots, and LGA slots of their own.

How many slot pairs in LGA does Southwest currently have (either prior to or including AirTran's slot pairs)? How many DCA slots pairs does FL have?

American has focused on routing almost all of its flights through hub cities including its hometown Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, because those are markets valued by business travelers and are gateways for international routes.

“This was the battle for New York,” said Robert W. Mann, president of consultant R.W. Mann & Co. in Port Washington, New York, and a former executive at Fort Worth, Texas-based American. Delta will “really have American on the ropes with a big presence at Kennedy and a big presence at LaGuardia.”

I hope they do! SWA management knows what it's doing.

The DOT called for selling the flying rights "to airlines that currently have little or no service at these airports. Slot pairs would be sold in bundles large enough to ensure that a purchaser would have a sufficient number of slots to provide meaningful new competition," the Transportation Department said in a written statement.
The slots will be sold in a 'blind auction'. Who's allowed to bid, though?

Southwest has about 3% of LGA slots currently. As comparison, American has 17% of LGA slots, and Delta currently has 22% (Delta will have around 50% when the deal is finalized). I believe US has around 33% of current DCA slots (US will have roughly 52% of DCA slots after the deal).

From what I can tell, Southwest has 8 slot pairs in LGA, and 18 EWR slot pairs.

In August 2009, Air Tran had 13.5 slot pairs @ LGA and 11 slot pairs @ DCA. So, add Southwest's slots, and Southwest currently has 61 slots in the NYC market, 43 of which are @ LGA.

DCA has a total of 832 slot pairs, while LaGuardia has 1,143.

Just curious. How many slots does American have out of DCA? What's their percentage?
