Jumpseating on AA/AE
A pilot from another airline recently told me how frustrating it is to jumpseat on AA/AE so I sent out a couple of emails. Here's a reply from AA's Director of Airport Operations:
My name is David Vance and Tom Del Valle asked that I address your OA jumpseat issue. With that said, D6/D7 travelers have multiple options for creating meal listings. The easiest is to go on the website https://ifc.id90.com and create their meal listing. The feedback has been very positive regarding that tool as they can access it 24/27 from anywhere in the world and they don’t have to call reservations.
The second option is to call the Non Rev Assist desk but they will only create the listing if it’s within 24 hours. In addition, they are closed overnight so it’s not always available.
The third option is to ask an agent to create the meal listing for them. We have put out multiple communications to please assist the D6/D7 travelers with a meal listing if they arrive at the gate without one. We have never implemented a policy that says we will not assist them at the airport. However, there are time crunch issues in some situations where they show up at the last minute because they were not able to be accommodated on their intended carrier. That being said our policy is to still to create a meal listing for them if requested to do so.
Let me know if you need anything else.

David Vance

The term 'meal listing' is one of the terms used to list you for a flight. So if an agent asks you "are you meal listed?" she's asking "have you made a non-rev listing?"
The choices are -
1. no
2. yes (for that specific flight)
3. not for this flight, but for flight XXX (they can find you in the system and transfer the data to the new flight)

Thanks for posting this. I used to use AA a bunch for commuting before the change. I used you folks last week for the 1st time in a couple years and due to this had forgotten (until I was driving to the airport) that the system had changed. So, here's my feedback.
The nonrev phone line doesn't take OAL non-rev calls anymore at all. It prompts you to go to a website. Kind of useless when you are driving to the airport.
The ticket agent will meal list you, but its nice to have it already done rather than have them pick up (my) slack.
My very limited experience with the new system is that the agents dont have any training on the changed system and therefore cannot help you to help them.
It is less smooth than it used to be, but it does work. It would probably have been really smooth if I had remembered there was a change prior to driving to the airport.
