Letter to DAL MEC Chairman, and response
 

Hi T, Thank you for your service to us all. Myself and all of the pilots that I fly with are increasingly becoming concerned with DALPA position on our upcoming negotiations. Will you support an agreement that doesn't at least get our payrates back to 2004 levels? Do you even consider the C2K payrates, which were negotiated 10 YEARS AGO, relevant? Why are they not included in the Delta Pilot's Contract Comparison, the Delta Pilot's Contract History, the DALPA website, or any DALPA communication? Has this been oversight, or or is there another reason ? As the Chairman, I realize that you are very busy. However, an explanation would fortify DALPA position to the membership. Thank you again for all you do for us.



Thanks for the email. I appreciate your participation and taking your time to stay involved. DALPA does not yet have a position on the upcoming negotiations. The pilot group (DALPA) will ultimately determine our goals and the MEC and MEC administration will work hard to achieve those goals. The MEC is currently in the process of developing the contract survey and should be distributing it later in Sept. The MEC will be working this fall to develop the contract opener. My point of view on these issues is no more important than your point of view. Please continue to engage your fellow pilots in discussions on these important topics. The more participation we get, the more valid the feedback will be. There will be another Roadshow in ATL on Oct 13th, I hope to see you there. T. O. M.

When I first saw that "contract comparison" mostly of bankruptcy emergency 9-11 crisis contracts I really thought that nice color brochure was from management trying to manage our expectations. When someone told me it was a union publication I thought they were yanking me. The fact that it didn't contain AF/KLM JV costs as well as C2K losses adjusted for inflation and many other things really suggests we are being set up to grant another 4-5 year extention of said emergency crisis contract, offset with partial cost of living adjustments branded as a "raise" as we become cheaper labor by the year with nothing done to fix outsourcing except to maybe increase it a little. Yeah those Mitsubishi jets at TSA and those C-Series jets at RAH are really saving our bacon! Were it not for them we would be furloughing more.

How much weight do you really think the NMB will give to our C2K pay rates? Or, those of AF/KLM?

The NMB are mediators not arbitrators, thus they are not the deciding factor. The can help mediate a differences but in the end it's their job to call an impasse. We as pilots determine what we are worth and what we are willing to do to obtain it.

I do not think anyone disagrees with that, but hindsight is always 20/20.

Considering this country is trying to be more and more like the EU, I am sure that we can argue with great effectiveness the value of a AF pilot versus our value, when we are basically subsidizing their higher taxes and labor cost.

If done correctly, I am quite sure the NMB would listen, and agree.

Especially with the makeup of this NMB. Look no farther than the DAL FA mess with AFA. The previous NMB is who declared APA was out of touch.
