Southwest Rejection, again...

We are not talking about anything nefarious or intentionally misleading -- this isn't the Delta "I got a speeding ticket when I was 16 but it doesn't show up on my driving record question." There are ways to focus your answers -- typical of how you focus the "greatest weakness" question to take the emphasis off of personal traits, while not giving the predictable canned answer. There are a number of people that did not have the GI bill and that did not work for USAir in the 90's. The original theme was an assertion that the type rating would not have an effect on a non-LUV interview. The reality is that it does affect your chances elsewhere.
When posed this type rating question at another airline, if you answer "well, the truth is that's the only way I could get an interview at Southwest" you will be rejected, that's the truth. I am not suggesting a lie, just asking if anyone has any better suggestions than shooting yourself in the foot.

Yeah, I think I kind of sounded defensive with that previous reply and it wasn't my intent. Just looking for a better way... who knows ExAF may be right on the money.

"I got the 737 type rating to improve my job knowledge and enhance my professional credentials." Could be both honest and enough info.

Zap,
You may have been the next guy they would have taken. In that case you may get a call much quicker than you think. You made it to an interview, which puts you in the top 5% or so right there. I'd think you still have a good shot....unless you told them about how you adore kittens.

Why would an airline (any airline) HR person think that a 737 type without flt hrs would have been earned for ANY reason except to get a SWA interview/job? Honesty is the only policy in this situation.

Well, I guess I can be a thread Necromancer.
Interviewed October 4th.. Felt like it went great.
TBNT email on the 14th as I was driving to the airport to go back to Afghanistan for L-3.
No idea what I did/said/looked wrong. I honestly walked out of there feeling really good / confident that I had done well.
As expected, zero feedback as to what I did wrong..
Only thing I can think of is I was barely over 1000 Turbine PIC, but that's what my app had when they called.
And now, I'm being involuntarily recalled to active duty, for a 14 month non flying job, three buildings down from where I work now in Afghanistan.
Bye bye currency... And my "first year pay reserve fund".
