This has nothing to do with what a regional airline pilot can expect or not expect.
It has to do with your overexaggeration of you and your family being considered POOR by you state. I'm sure those in your state of residence who are ACTUALLY poor would love to change places with you.

Just do the math: 72k minus taxes, 10% or more into the 401K, company insurance buy in to get your family included, then airport car, crash pad, mortgage, food and clothing for 8, gas, insurance ... ect. Doable but miserable. Where I live now a small 3 bedroom starter house rents for $1350/mo. It is much more in the city. It all adds up fast and lets not forget the biggest expense of all; the opportunity cost of what it took to get there in college, flight training and experience building. When you take it all into account everyone should be earning legacy airline wages starting in their 20's.

Again - I don't have to "do the math" Sky - your state - the one who you say considers you poor if you are making $72,000/year has already done the math and you are wrong; but you still can't even admit it. "Just the facts mamm'... " stands out here. Just tell it like it is. It is bad enough that you don't need to be making things up and throwing out inaccurate facts as you go along Sky.

You and I have had this discussion before. Since you do not have a family to support you can't understand the costs involved. If you really are interested you could send me a PM and we could discuss it further, but I am not going into it here.
Nope. No reason for a PM. I'll let you continue to spout off your exaggerations here in public for the community to see to include things that you obviously know nothing about in general.

The point is that the wages and benefits of flying for a regional are considerably less than what the guys at the majors get for doing essentially the same job. The results are self evident. Just look at the lifestyle difference. It isn't fair. Companies have learned that they can hold out the carrot of a job at the majors and gain an indentured work force of deluded dreamers. There just is not enough room for most at the better companies and the consequences of falling short are harsh.
OH FAIR! You want life to be FAIR. I missed that. Here is a fair one for you to chew on for awhile. You always like the quit aviation and become a lawyer line so.....I know a lawyer who is prosecuting a child molester (his own step-daughter in this case) and for all the work, time, and energy that this lawyer will put in the case (remember that the prosecutor has the burden of proof here) the prosecutor will be paid somewhere between $32k-55k. One of the Defense lawyers contacted in this case won't even TOUCH the case for less than $100k MINIMUM, and then sit back in this air tight case (it is all on video), and try to reach a plea deal because he knows the client is going to prison and whether his proposed client gets 20, 30, or a 100 years in prison doesn't reduce his fee one bit! Fair?

In regards to the anonymous interview; pilots could meet and be assessed in person. Their score taken into consideration and included into their evaluation. However I do not think that anyone in back really cares about how socially smooth the pilot is in person. They only care that the best available is flying the plane. Besides I don't think those who do most of the hiring have to sit up front anyway. They just want that annoying captain to stop bugging them about hiring their kid. I am sure that we could figure out a hiring system that is fair, but no one whats that. They want a system that has built in reasons to say no when they want to.

I'm sure that you are in charge Sky you will figure out an exceedingly fair system and you can tell the whole world how wrong they were when they didn't hire you so many years ago, and maybe you can even find that United Captain wasn't it, who wouldn't give you a recommendation after meeting him the first time. Fair?

Your angst really knows no bounds does it Sky?
Btw - you didn't even attempt to explain how you would gauge those attributes that you mentioned before in the interview process - to make it fair to all of course.

USMCFLYR, don't worry about Sky. It is a total waste do time to read his posts. For a few years now, when I see that dirt bike, I just skip that post. Really not worth your time.

No. Sky and I have a long history.
Someone needs to be the voice of reason as far as it comes to Sky's exaggeration of facts and figures. If you were to read most of our exchanges you would see that it isn't the message content that is out in left field but the method of delivery. He needs to be called out when he makes ridiculous claims (like $72,000 being below Washington State's poverty line) just has any other user who would make such claims - or provide the hard facts that others can see to support such claims. Sky isn't much on facts which can be referenced. I'd actually like to see such. I'd be blown away if such a claim proved to be true, but at least I could say "wow! I didn't know that. Amazing" Sky won't be swayed such though. He will doggedly stick to his guns and make excuse after excuse. I'm not sure I have EVER seen Sky say something like "I guess I was wrong about those details...."

No. There are a few in the more than silent MAJORITY (I won't even use the words converts ) who thinks that SkyHigh doesn't get free reign to spread falsehoods without a counter point of view.

SkyHigh,

You are correct when you say that airline hiring is largely a function of who you know rather than what you know. In light of this fact, one has two options:

1. Complain about how "unfair" this non-merit-based system is

2. Make some connections

Sometimes the system sucks, but if you can't beat 'em...

Also, if you want to have 6 kids, don't become a pilot (that goes for anyone)

Seriously way too high sky...you need to move on or seek professional help. Be content in your old/new life man. Sometimes your dreams don't work out and you redirect to something eles. Enjoy all that cash and family time. Let others grow for themselves.

If we are short on TPIC, should we just not bother in applying then? Or, should we fill it out to show interest? How do they view this?
