Default SWA attrition?

I've read on another forum that some SWA guys think there might be attrition from the FO ranks once DAL, UAL, AA (maybe), etc start to crank up hiring here in the next couple of years because of the potentially long upgrade at SWA. Add in a quicker upgrade and/or the chance to fly bigger metal to int'l destinations it could be pretty true.

Do you SWA guys see this carrying any truth? Do you think SWA will get less competetive because of it, meaning going come several thousand hours TPIC and a check airmen letter to be competitive to some a little less.

No flame either. This is coming from someone who has SWA on the top of their list.

Thanks for any insight.

No flame either. This is coming from someone who has SWA on the top of their list and wants all the "on the fence types" to go to said legacies so the guys who want SWA can get SWA.

Thanks guys!

I saw where SWA new fleet plan is to keep the airline at around 700 aircraft for the next 5 years. If I were interested in a job at SWA and advancement were key I would find out how many retirements they have upcoming. It looks like advancement wont come from growth.

Of course there will be some attrition from the bottom, there always is. People continually test the waters to see if the grass truly is greener. Just like people leave legacy airlines for SWA, SWA folks will leave SWA for legacies. I doubt there will be much change in what makes candidate competitive though.

We had some leave for United back in 99-2000 time frame. They tried to come back after they were furloughed. Not a chance. We have had some go to UPS when it started up and a couple here and there through the years. Have not heard any serious talk of more than a couple of guys leaving, nothing even close to show any kind of a change in hiring standards. If/when others start hiring big of course things will change but it seems for now the 3 biggies and other small fries are not going to do any major hiring for awhile.

They told me when I interviewed last year it would be a 15 year upgrade. That's when I stopped caring about the interview. Whether it's true or not, I'm not sure, but I wouldn't want to be in the right seat for that long. Not to mention OAK was the junior base, and I live in PHL.

Someone hired tomorrow would be at 50% on the WN seniority list in 2029 due to retirements. Considering captain typically falls a tad below the 50% mark, that is probably right if you want to upgrade at first opportunity.

It was kind of a downer interview. Not what I expected. I was still heartbroken when I didn't get the job though.
