It's sad what Mexico has become. When I worked at Continental Express we went all over Mexico. It was nice to overnight in Leon, Oaxaca, Torreon, Nuevo, etc. You could enjoy authentic Mexican food and beer at cheap prices, with little fear of danger. Heck, even in 2008 I could head to the non tourist area of Cancun for good food. You could take the bus from the hotel strip downtown for 50 cents. But that ended once the drug cartels started tossing maltov cocktails into local nightclubs and bars, just before they'd barricade the doors shut. It's sad..........

Philly ranks 6th most dangerous city in the US for cities over 500,000 population. Even Houston is safer than Philly and ranks 9th most dangerous.

The big difference is you can run to the cops in the U.S. and they are on your side not like Mexico where they are aligned with the criminals.

Other sources available to non military folks. May not be as up to date, but back in the day, I've gotten briefings from customs guys in FLL at Jet Center.
