What she fails to mention is the fact that if you purchase an extra ticket because of your size, that second ticket fee is refunded if the flight does not check in full. SWA only takes the revenue if they were denied the ability to sell the ticket to a paying customer because your size required two seats. If it is a full flight and they can't sell the seat next to you who should bear that cost, the airline or the customer?

im salivating so much over this question i could eat kevin smith. seriously though wasn't it the airlines choice to sell 2 seats to begin with? How much are they losing by selling both seats compared to selling both seats seperately? i dont understand the difference in ticket cost. please explain.

The policy states that you can pay for 2 seats up front if you are a "customer of size", but you will be REFUNDED the second seat cost if the flight is not full. If the flight indeed would be full, SWA keeps the second seat fee in order to recoup the cost of the ticket they were unable to sell to a willing customer.
