They don't have to displace... there is no such language in the PEA. What they can do is slowly over months down size a base until it doesn't exist. This system bid a base will have 100 crews... the next bid 50... the next 25... then zero. If you don't put in a system bid they will stick you where they want. Why? There is no displacement language in the PEA. That is maximum flexiblity.
They know this and thats why they don't want to talk about displacement language; it takes away flexibility. |

question is have they?.
The only reason we didn't lose our jobs in 08' was because so many too LOA's and guys went back to DAL and UAL. From the BOS CP in 08' "the senior guys wanted to furlough to keep the bid devisors up, but so many left we need you all here". |

Not exactly correct..... they could move time away from a base but if no pilots bids out to the base new base positions (time)they would need to hire for the unfiled time. This was proven over the past few year with our JFK E190 time. So they really can't close a base. |

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems silly to think that they can't close a base if they wanted to. |

So far they havent closed any bases, which is lucky for us. But if you live on the coast of Florida during hurricane season shouldnt you have insurance to cover possible damages? |

Agreed, I'm partly banking on attrition at JetBlue when hiring picks up industry wide.
If you are counting on attrition to give you increased seniority faster, you will be very disappointed. Plus by the time you realize it, you will have been here 5-10 years and missed your chance at a real major airline that has real defined attrition due to retirements (vs hoping for pilots just leaving jetblue) JetBlue should ONLY be considered as a temp job on the way to getting hired at a real major airline. It is a place to get out of the Regionals and into the majors. If you need PIC time, don't go to JetBlue. If you want good protections/work rules/retirement/medical/CBA, don't go to JetBlue. Just my opinion...... FNG |

Exactly. They could do anything they want not just with bases but with our employment entirely.

They haven't furloughed anyone becuase they haven't needed to. No one should ever think that such things would never happen. This is business and Management will do what ever they need to do to make $$$. (at our expense) Just my opinion....... FNG |
Unfortunately, any airline can do anything they want with based and they have. JB is no different except that they haven't yet. That's as good as you can get anywhere as far as base selection goes. There is a as good of a chance as anywhere that once you get based at home (I live in SoCal) you can spend the rest of your time served at JB there.

Where did you guys get your crystal ball and how can I get one? Or should I just have you predict the future for me? Must be nice to have it all figured out. Now, why don't you stop talking about it and actually go do it already?
And once again, thanks for sharing this on the poolies thread! |

While attrition at JetBlue would increase your senirioty faster than retirements it would not be enough to get you where you want/should be vs a real major airline. Even if one third of our pilots leave, you will still see 10-15-20 years till Captain upgrade. Why? Becuase those that remain and are captains are still very young compaired to a normal legacy manning spread.
