Response to Captain Tucker

What he really meant:
I agree that:
Chairman O'Malley's letter is the most disturbing thing I have observed in 23yrs of ALPA membership, and I've seen more than a few disturbing things.
It’s OK for MEC members to disagree provided we don't ever let those that disagree with us prevail. That’s part of our process too.
it is an entirely different matter when an MEC Chairman launches a quixotic crusade to turn windmills into monsters with no reason other than being upset that he might not prevail in a demorcatic MEMRAT

One thing about the marketplace for information ... once it is put in the window for buyers to consider, there is no taking it back.

Regarding the "process" issue discussed in these two letters:
Whichever way this vote goes I think the Delta pilot group needs to address the balance of power between the MEC and the MEC Administration.
Whether the exact wording of the policy manual was followed is almost irrelevant. Its pretty obvious what happened here.
For whatever reason, the MEC seems to have been neutered. They are all well meaning and hard working guys but they consistently get rolled.
The MEC reps may have the ultimate power on paper but they always get out-maneuvered. When presented with this fait accompli agreement they voted for it not so much because they agreed with it but because it was too late to do anything about it. O'Malley played them like a fiddle.
It bothers me that I'm reminded of Third World dictatorships.
Our MEC is kinda like the North Korean parliament or something. Powerful in theory but in practice kept on a very short leash.
We definitely need some reform in this area.
Direct election of the Master Chairman by the rank and file would be a good place to start.

I was told that I will get a response that can be posted on here from TT. If/when I get that, I will post it. He has stated he will not release this letter to be posted anywhere but the ALPA sites. It's his call.
TT letter was to the C20 pilots, and TO's letter was a rebuttal to that sent only to the C20 pilots.
I do not recall a time where a Master Chairman retorted to a Council Chairman. Things are definitely getting interesting. Whether or not this passes or fails, I am sure that the back and forth will result in changes in one form or another.

I have no problem with TT offering his opinion on things; I have a very serious problem when he prints things he knows to be false.

T.O. Should not have resorted to what amounts to name calling but there may be a little (or a lot) of pot/kettle in the whole thing. I'm not interested enough to go look for myself but I'm guessing the posts on the DALPA forum must be flying fast and furious - no resemblance to the DOJ's problem is intended or implied!

To all,
This is my response that can be posted.
“Many pilots have requested that I allow my recent DAL Council 20 Chairman’s letter to be placed on non ALPA web sites. I respectfully decline.
The beauty of the First Amendment, ALPA Constitution and By Laws, and the Landrum-Griffin Act is that through free speech differences of opinion can be discussed and debated within a union; not just within the MEC, but by our members. Unfortunately, there are those that seek to replace ALPA as the collective bargaining agent at Delta. They have placed these discussions, out of context, on their websites.
I believe in the value and quality of services provided to the Delta pilots by the ALPA International and the Delta MEC. This belief far outweighs debating points on a website. The pilots of Council 20 were emailed my letter and the letter of the Delta MEC Chairman. My letter will be available on the Council 20 website tomorrow, as always, for viewing by all Delta pilots.
