I never said that we would never hire again. We are talking about hiring due to the passing of this TA (but I think you knew that, spin spin spin). I'm not so sure that we will hire due to this TA.

Run for the hills!!! More people are flying every year though. The Recession may not have helped, but yoy the numbers keep growing.
So which is it?? You started an entire thread with doom and gloom economic predictions some time ago. So, are things ok on that front? Or are they going to fall apart? Because your two postings/positions are contradictory.

Maybe you could have done research first? I knew about it, just by taxiing behind the multitude of Piedmont Dash 8s and Colgan Saabs at LGA in USair colors. Looks like you weren't paying attention.....
I think you are the one not paying attention. What people are talking about is management's pleading with us to help them get the slot swap passed (write your reps in dc), then stabbing us in the back by making it 90% rj flying. Also, if I am not mistaken, even dalpa had predicted the need for around 300 pilots to accomodate the swap. Look how that worked out for us. Already forgotten dalpa's messages of "suprise" and "dismay" at management's decision have you?

I don't remember that.
That is apparent.

From Bacon:
Yes, I should have done more research. But not to fear, I won't make the mistake of trusting the company and my "union" again.
There it is.

Eventually things will get better, or the Earth will explode. Right now Europe is imploding, and our economy is languishing. That may last a couple more years, and then things probably will get better, just in time for our next opener. How convenient......

The slot swap at LGA was always known to be for RJ types routes, or prop routes. Most of the prop routes were upgraded to RJs, which our customers will like better than props. They hopefully will connect in LGA onto our mainline planes to FLA, etc. The RJ routes have potential to grow to maiine routes, and luckily the 717 could be the perfect fit for that airport too. If ALPA missed where the slots were from and what planes were on them, that's their fault. I don't work for them.

My first call would have been to crew scheduling asking if they knew I was going into a golden day and I would note the extremely short duration of my availability.

If that didn't rectify the situation, I would next ask for a crew scheduling manager. Surely this isn't the negative relationship scheduling wants to breed with their reserve pilots? The very pilots that can help them out of short notice jams.

Still no change? I'm calling my chief pilot and voicing my opinion on the ridiculousness of the matter.

If all of the above fails, I still my short call as required by the contract. I sit it knowing that I did everything in my power to bring to light the foolishness of sitting on short call for 3 (effectively 1) hours and I make a mental note of the occurrence for when they "need me as soon as possible". Treat me with respect, and I'll go out of my way to help you (scheduling) out. Treat me like a number, I'll act like a number and use all of my "unwritten" two hours.

Sorry, stuff like this just ticks me off and there's no reason for it. They do it because they can.

I was on the 88 in Atl at the bottom before I got shoved out to NY on higher paying equipment(ER), So I know what abused is. However life is good now on a much better plane and we don't get abused. I never want to go back to the 88!

Yeah I think it depends which equipment you are on. I havent done squat all year. looking at 119 hours year to date on the 9. Havent flow in 60 days and I just finished out June with 1 shortcall. Have to say this new reserve system is treating me pretty darn good right now.
