Correct me if I am wrong but this conversation is taking place amongst people one normally sees at a hotel adjacent McCormick and Schmicks in a threadbare golf shirt barely retaining the potbelly and boof handles, no belt on a pair of Levis at least a size too small and always an inch shy of touching the K-Swiss sneakers you bought in college, assuming the uniform shoes were not readily available.
.....aaaand you are poking fun of others. Classic.

Dont forget knee socks in the summer to match the thigh high shorts.
I dunno for me, i think the progressive look is cool. There would never be advancements if people always did the same thing ya know?
But I for one like the retro airline look too. like PanAm.
But dont take it from me, Im the youngest pilot in my group of
3, when I wear a white crew neck undershirt under my work polo I get accused of being a "hoodlum"

After seeing this post I decided to ask people that the only thing they know about the airline industry is how to be a customer. I showed them the pic of the uniform and they just started laughing!! When I asked them why they are laughing they said it looks ridiculous, it’s so unprofessional. Ok, I know that there are posts here about how were not professionals anymore but if you ask me and alot of other people that entrust us with their lives and their family’s lives expect us to be professionals and looking professional is part of it. I was in the military for 9 years and there wasn’t a day that I didn’t try to make my uniform look like I didn’t just pull it out of the duffle bag. Also, pilots are in charge of the aircraft and everyone aboard and we have to make serious decisions and in some cases have to kick people off the plane. How in the world are people going to take us seriously when we look like this?!?! I know that change is good and that’s what VX is trying to do so I’m not knocking that, just doesn’t seem that they were thinking when these were introduced. I just take pride in all my professions and I always try to look professional whenever I put on my uniform.

I don't get why there is 5 pages of bashing about the new uniform. There are definitely uglier ones out there. UPS and ABX (they are the ones with the gray pants and black/red/silver epaulets, right?) come to mind.
Everyone says the uniform lacks professionals, yet everyone one here is calling the uniform gay and other homophobic references. pretty much anything short of calling someone who wears it a F@ggot. I think professionalism is more based on how you wear the uniform, than the uniform itself. Iron your shirt, wear clean, creased pants, shine your shoes once in a while and you'll look professional, however a good number of pilots can't even accomplish that as you look around America's airports. Have a Korean Airlines or Emirates in-flight crew put on a current Delta or United's FA uniform, and they will make it look 10 times better. Because its about HOW you wear it.
I have read some comments about VX uniform's lack of a tie. VX is a San Fran based company, and those who are from the west coast know that business casual is the norm here. Which is vastly different from NYC and the east coast, where everyone still runs around in suits. That might play a factor in the absence of a tie. And to the ones that specifically posted about their disgust about the lack of tie, Do you wear your hat? No one says a lack of hat is unprofessional. Yet Delta is the only one that I know of that makes it mandatory wear. How come no hat is accepted?
Also, is it really surprising that Virgin America is trying to do something different? They want to stand out. Their goal is to be different.
I don't work for Virgin so i dont have a dog in this fight. But I had to chime in, because some of you were getting ridiculous.
