Commuting From CHO and or RIC
#11

Can't really help directly with your questions, I'll just comment that DL has two or three daily mainline flights (albeit 717) to ATL, and there's a 30-hour CHO layover every day that is not at all tough for a new hire to get (and flat-out easy on the weekends). Nothing* beats being home while you're at work for a 30-hour getting per diem & ADG.... 717 is a new hire airplane.... You do the math....
Welcome aboard, congrats on the move!
*OK, some things beat it--but, if you've got to be "at work," wouldn't you rather be home than in some random hotel room? Plus, the Omni's nice, right on the mall, so if you want to treat the missus to a night on the town, you could even keep the hotel room & be a hero....

RIC is a LOOOONG drive from CHO. A lot longer than it looks from the map. It's just one of those combinations of surface roads that takes freekin' forever.
And that was in 1995. I'm sure 20 years of growth hasn't helped.
UVA is on the southish side of town, FWIW. From what I recall, there wasn't much south of it, so you had to fight traffic to the north side where all the "consumer" goodies were along the US29 corridor.
That said, be sure to get bagels from Bodos.
