Yes. Or conversely, you can drop to zero and cut the company a check for your benefits.

This is the best way...because you don't have to work but still get to tell people you're a sweet airline pilot!

Just to be clear, you can't "drop" trips at SWA. You can put them in the give away system and hope someone picks them up.

How hard would it be to actually do this though? Are drops regularly approved by scheduling?

Drops are all electronic and dependent on the reserve grid.

If you have some seniority, you could drop almost your entire schedule during initial open time and maybe all of it depending on if the first 4-5 days are red or green on staffing.

The boss move is if your senior, bid a conflict and let them drop the first 4-6 days of the month with full pay and drop the rest of the month during IOT. You'll get paid up to 37 hours and not work a day

How does it work at JetBlue? Are you able to only drop what you have in your PTO back? Is there a give away to other pilots?

Hey now, wouldn't that be a sweet deal? Drop all your trips, and still get paid. Would anyone ever work, or would they just collect min guarantee for not flying or sitting reserve?

I'd like to know the airline that does that. I suspect they would be bankrupt by now.

Default Delta - No Min.

In fact, there are some people who "drop" their whole line and get a whole new schedule from available trips. It's a little harder in the summer because we're short right now so dropping trips in general doesn't always have enough reserve coverage. We also can bid that way where you can put in to only be awarded what you've asked for and if you don't get anything you don't have to pick up anything. I believe this is why if a pilot is senior (your 60-65 age group) they can be very selective about their lines if only to maintain insurance coverage. While DAL's medical is fairly mediocre it is Gold Plated compared to what's available from the state's with an Obamacare exchange (just looked and for a 58 y.o. male it is $500/month with a $6,000 deductible so $12,000 out of pocket before insurance pays a dime.

If you are a lineholder you can drop to zero hours at AA.
Of course someone else would have to be willing to pick up your trips.
